.:Anywhere For You-Chapter 11:.
Chapter Eleven

Beth woke up to the sun in the morning and immediately realized that she had forgotten to close her blinds the night before. She groaned and rolled over. She finally convinced herself to get up, and she slowly sat up. She decided that she would do a little more unpacking before she got dressed. She unpacked part of a small cardboard box, then got dressed. She was surprised to find that Kevin was already downstairs. It was barely seven, and there he was sipping coffee and reading the newspaper. When she thought back to their time sharing an apartment, she realized that he had always been up early. She cleared her throat and said, "Good morning, Kev."

"Hey, you're up! Good morning. Do you want some coffee or orange juice or anything?"

"Not right now. I found something interesting when I started unpacking this morning. I'd like you to see it."

"Okay."

They marched up the stairs and into her room. She fell to her knees in the messy pile that covered the floor. She finally found what she was looking for. From beneath an empty suitcase, she produced an old notebook.

"Look at this," Beth said as she handed it to Kevin. "Read the third page."

He slowly and carefully opened it and flipped through the first two pages and found the third.

"Wow...This is incredible," Kevin said in a distant voice.

"Do you remember when we wrote this?"

"Yep. It was in the eighth grade. I remember it was for a poetry contest..."

"The winner got a trip anywhere in the U.S."

"Oh, that's right."

"It was good poem. We should have won!" Beth exclaimed and Kevin laughed.

"Those were some good times."

"And these aren't," Beth said sadly.

"Beth? When you are sad, I will dry your tears. When you are scared, I will comfort your fears. When you are worried, I will give you hope. When you are confused, I will help you cope. And when you are lost, and can't see the light, I shall be your beacon shining ever so bright. This is my oath-" Kevin recited, but Beth cut him off.

"I pledge till the end. Why you may ask? Because you are my friend. Thanks, Kev."

"We should write some music to accompany this."

"You know, those words were exactly how I was feeling now. I am sad, scared, worried, and confused, and lost from who I am. That's incredible. It was like we had a preminition all those years ago."

"Yeah, this is exactly how I feel for you. I want to be here to protect you and guide you."

"Aww, thanks. I love you, Kevin. You're like a brother. You're my only family," she said with tears in her eyes. She had been feeling bad about the loss of her family lately.

"Shh, I know," he said as he reached out to hug her. "I love you, too."

Their tender moment was interrupted by the phone ringing. Kevin reluctantly broke away to answer the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey. It's Bone. Can I please speak to Beth?"

"I guess. Wait a sec."

"Okay."

Kevin got Beth on the phone and left her alone.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Liz. This is A.J. I want to apologize."

"Why?"

"Because I feel bad about the things I said and the way I acted."

"But you do know I am living here...with Kevin?"

He sighed. "Yes."

"Okay, I'm sorry, too. I should have discussed it with you first. I just don't feel comfortable rushing into things like relationships."

"Don't worry about it. I was just jealous. I still am."

"There is no reason for you to be jealous."

"I know. I just wish I was Kevin. I wish I could be the one living with you."

"Aww, that's so sweet, but I'm not leaving Kev."

"I guess I'll have to understand."

"Good."

"That's all I really wanted. I just wanted to apoloogize."

"Okay, bye."

"Bye."
