That night, Brian and his date Julianna came to pick them up to go to the restaurant. Kavin and Beth got in the car and Brian introduced Beth and Julianna to each other. Kevin already knew her. They met Howie and his friend Lindsey in the parking lot. He introduced her to everyone. Then A.J. and Nick pulled up in A.J.'s car and they all walked in together. The hostess showed them to their large table in the back of the small restaurant and they all ordered. They started discussing their day and what progress they made towards starting their work on a new album. After talking for awhile, Nick asked Beth what she had done.
She took a deep breath and looked around the table. Her eyes met Kevin's and she saw him silently urging her to say what she had to say. She took another deep breath, and said, "Well, I have an announcement. A week from tonight I am leaving. I'm moving to Pittsburgh, because I was offered a job at a big clothing store. They said that they talk with the Orlando hospital because the cheif surgeon here was from Pittsburgh and his cousin is the owner. I guess one way or another, they had heard about me because apparently they like my work. They said they wanted a friendly, hard-working receptionist. They told me I met their qualifications and asked if I would accept the job."
Everyone stared at her. She looked across the table at A.J. and saw a look of horror on his face. She felt terrible.
"I'm proud of her," Brian said. "You were determined and you got yourself a good job. All we can do is wish you good luck and try to stay in touch. We're gonna miss you."
Julianna gave her a sympathetic smile. She said, "I'd just like to wish you the best, and I'm sorry that I never got to really know you."
"You guys, I'm not leaving yet! You're making it harder!" Beth exclaimed.
"She's right, we're stuck with her for another week," Kevin laughed.
"Stuck with me?! Oh, right, Mr. Richardson!"
Everyone laughed, except for A.J. He was still in shock. They ate their food, wished each other good-night, and the boys said they would call each other in the morning to make plans for the day.
Brian drove Beth and Kevin home, and then sped off into the night with Julianna. Kevin and Beth walked side by side up the sidewalk towards the front door.
"It won't be that bad," Kevin said as he slung his arm across his shoulder. He had noticed that she looked scared and helpless and knew she probably was feeling similar to the way he had felt when he left his home in Kentucky to find a career in Orlando.
"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine," she said nervously. She was trying her hardest to be brave.
