The week passed quickly. Beth had spent every single moment that she was awake with at least one of the guys. She even got to know Brian's girlfriend a little bit. When the time came that it was time for her to leave, she felt more attatched to Orlando and its people than she did when she accepted the job, but she had convinced herself that she was going to leave because she could not spend her life depending on someone. Kevin had paid for her plane ticket because she did not have the money. He thought it was the least that he could do for her, while Beth, on the other hand, thought that he had done way too much for her.
With plane ticket and luggage in hand, she and the boys piled into Kevin's and Howie's cars to make the journey from Kevin's house to the Orlando International Airport. Once they passed through security, she started feeling the impact of loneliness. Even though they were still with her, she felt her time was severely limited.
Once she had checked in at the gate, she knew it was time to say her farewells. She started with Howie who she knew the least. They hugged and he wished her the best. Then came Nick.
"Goodbye," he said as he pulled her into a hug.
"Goodbye. I'm going to miss your obsession with video games," she replied sadly.
"No, you won't," he laughed.
"Oh, yes, I will. It's always the little things," she said as they broke apart.
"Brian," she said. "I'm going to really miss you. You probably didn't know, but every time I saw you, you had a way of cheering me up, even back in Kentucky."
He hugged her and with a smile said, "Well, I know I haven't seen the last of you!"
She laughed, and then moved on to A.J. She took a deep breath. "Oh, A.J." she said as he pulled her into his embrace. "I'm sorry things didn't work out, but I guess I'm just too independent."
"It's alright. Things weren't meant to be that way. I've realized that having a good friend is better than having any girlfriend."
With that, Beth's eyes started to water. "I'm going to miss you. Keep in touch. I wish it didn't end that way."
She pulled herself away and walked over to Kevin. She saw tears in his eyes that were waiting to fall. She sighed and fell into his arms. That was when she finally broke down and started crying. He patted that back of her head and she rubbed his back as they stood together crying like little kids.
"Kevin, why am I doing this?"
"Because you need to."
"No, Kev, I don't. All I need is you."
"Shh, your strength and indepence is something I admire about you. Don't lose that. Don't ever lose that. Never lose sight of what you have, and that doesn't mean just materialistic things. It's love, friendship, faith, and all your emotions and determination. There isn't a person in Pittsburgh that knows how much they got when they hired you. You're gonna do great."
He continued to cry harder and Beth knew that he was probably trying to be strong. She knew that if this was his proof that he was strong, then he was feeling even worse inside. She could only think of one thing to say. "Kevin, I love you. Never ever forget that. Never!"
"I love you, too. I love you, too. Remember to call or write or do something to keep in touch. Now go get your booty on that plane."
She smiled and nodded. Then she took one last look at all of them and headed towards the door. She turned around and ran back to them. She shared a group hug with them, and then she actually left. She waved one last time at the door, and then got on the plane and left.
