.:Anywhere For You-Chapter 18:.

Chapter Eighteen

After a very restless string of days for Kevin, he finally found himself at the end of the week, and very excited. He had decided deep in his heart that this was a very special person that he could not live without.

With that thought, he quickly got out of bed, showered, got dressed, had breakfast, and went to the airport. He whistled and hummed the whole morning, and then happily used his beautiful voice to sing along and harmonize with the radio.

When he arrived at the airport, he found that her plane had been delayed, so he went over to a newstand, bought a newspaper, and went to the gate to sit down and read. The time slowly passed, but soon enough the plane arrived. Kevin nervously folded and refolded the newspaprer as he stood and watched each passenger individually deplane. Then she came.

Kevin and Beth ran towards each other and hugged. Kevin picked up her carry-on and she slung her purse over her shoulder and they walked towards the baggage claim.

"Kev, what's wrong? You're not usually this rushed," Beth said.

"I don't want to be recognized," he responded ever so softly.

"Oh."

They continued on in silence. When they reached the baggage claim, they stood off to the side as they waited for the bags to come. Kevin spotted her two suitcases and pulled them off the conveyor belt. Together the silently walked outside to get the bus that would take them over to the parking lot where Kevin parked. They boarded the bus and sat next to each other, silently. After a short bus ride, the bus stopped, they unloaded the bags, and carried them over to Kevin's car.

Kevin loaded the bags into the trunk and Beth went ovet to the passenger side and got in. After they payed for their parking, they drove away from the airport and got on the freeway. When it was still silent, Beth knew something was wrong.

"Kev, something's wrong what is it?" Beth asked, hoping for an answer.

"Nothing! Nothing is wrong."

"Um, okay. So how is everyone? How's A.J.?"

"A little while after you left, A.J. met this really nice girl Emily. They started dating, and they're pretty serious."

"Oh."

"He seems really happy."

"Are Brian and Julieanna still together?"

"Oh, yeah! They're engaged!"

"Aww, that's so sweet. They're so cute together."

"Yeah, they are."

"What about Howie and Nick?"

"Nick just started going out with Jess. I don't know her yet."

"What about Howie?"

"Do you remember Lindsey?"

"No..."

"Howie brought her to dinner the night you told everyone."

"Oh, yeah!"

"They're boyfriend and girlfriend now, but before they were 'just friends' or so they said."

"So what about you?"

"What about me?"

"Do you have anyone?"

Kevin fell silent again as he pulled off of the freeway and on to the empty road that led back to the suburb where he lived. He pondered the question and repeated it over and over again in his head.

"Kevin, I know something is wrong! Please tell me."

"Nothing is wrong, Beth."

"Sweetie, I don't understand why you won't tell me. You have always told me everything."

"It's nothing."

"Nothing to yuo might be something to me."

He fell silent again.

"Kev, pull over."

"Why?"

"Because I said so, please just pull over."

He pulled onto the sliver of gravel along the side of the road. He turned to look out his window and avoid Beth's gaze. Beth, however, turned towards him. She pushed her purse off the seat and down near her feet. She pushed the middle armrest up and slid across to the middle seat. She gently slipped her arm around his waist. He let out a slight gasp of surprise to find her right next to him. She leaned her head against his shoulder and softly said, "Baby, I don't like the idea that you don't trust me anymore. And I don't like the idea that there might be something that scares you so much that you won't tell anyone."

He wrapped his arms around her and said, "It's not like that at all."

"Then what is it?"

"It's this," he said and leaned down. He pulled her towards him and kissed her like he had never kissed anyone before. With that realization, he realized that he had never kissed anyone but her before. He had known Beth all his life and as long as he had known her, she had been his only girlfriend. They had only kissed a few times because then they went back to only a friendship because of the divorce.
