"Are you okay, Angel, are you okay?" Brian asked repeatedly.
"It hurts!" she sobbed.
"Shhh. I know it does," he said as he comforted her. "It was all Joey's fault! He left this dumb Superman thing on the steps!"
Angel smiled. She wanted to laugh, but it hurt too badly. They both new it was broken, but neither said anything about that fact. Anyone who just took one glance at the now swollen, discolored, and bent out of shape leg, would also be positive that it was broken. Either that or Angel was made of rubber and was some Stretch Armstrong character. (Remember those Stretch Armstrong toys? If not, then never mind!)
"Ok, sweetie. Be a warrior for Brian. I am going to pick you up and carry you down to the sofa in the den. I'm going to try as hard as I can not to move your leg. Okay?" Brian asked.
"Yes," Angel said through clenched teeth.
"Ready...1...2...3...and up you go!" Brian said, trying his best to be cheerful and strong for Angel. A broken leg was not that big of a deal, but Angel was eleven years old and had not been through much physical pain in her short life, plus Brian put all of the blame on his own shoulders.
He quickly, but extra carefully, carried the young girl down the stairs and gently placed her on the sofa in the television room. She was still crying, but she was trying as hard as she possibly could to stop.
"You're a good kid," Brian said as he kissed her on the forehead. "I'll be right back."
Brian rushed down the steps to the basement. He first yelled at Joey, then he forced everyone to go up to see Angel.
Angel half-smiled as she saw everyone rush in, totally concerned. She found it a tiny bit humorous to see Joey who was embarrassed that his irresponsibility could cause such a horrible thing to occur. "I'll be okay," she said to Nick who was giving her a look that she knew all too well. Everytime anyone got injured, Nick got a look on his face that was asking the victim if they would be okay, plus he added more to the concerned glance. He also made it appear to the victim that if they were not okay, then he would never survive.
"You know, we have to get you to the hospital. You need to get an x-ray," Kevin stated.
"Uh, Kev, it's kinda obvious that it's broken," Angel said, pointing out his stupidity.
"Ange, he didn't want to say that it was broken, because he didn't know how you were feeling," Pollyanna said, trying to comfort her.
"Ummm, everyone, we're kind of, uhhh, snowed in," Justin said nervously as he looked out the window.
"Are you serious?! Now what are we gonna do about her leg?!" Brian exclaimed.
