Memories of 1984
|
" We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealthor luxury orlong life or happiness; only power, pure power....We are different from all the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing....We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship....But always -- do not forget this, Winston -- always there will be the intoxication of power, constantlyincreasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face -- forever "(1984, pp. 217, 220).
"Something I read in High School but did not understand then, but now I do..."
Eric A. Blair 1903-1950 greetings from Oceania, this is for you....your future is
here.
Update 16th
April 2005
The march towards the three-bloc world of 1984 seems to have
slowed down thanks to the election of the conservative Liberal Party of
Australia, however, the Party has instead opted to
create merely economy integration on a bilateral basis with Thailand
and Singapore and USA. What the future will bring out of this, it
yet uncertain.... we shall see... . in Future Dystopia.
