Chapter Twenty Four

I woke up at 7:30 and felt so tired. I turned off my alarm clock and called Michelle's name. I curled back into a ball when Michelle walked back into the room.

"You called," she said sarcastically.

"Yeah, yeah. Will you call my work and tell them I'm sick," I said and gave her a sad look.

"Okay," she said and left the room.Five minutes later she returned and sat on my bed.

"Sleep, I need sleep," I called from under my covers.

"Wake up, sleepyhead," she said and lifted the covers off of me.

"Leave me the hell alone," I said and put my head under my pillow.

"No, you need to get up," she said and handed me the phone.

"What!" I said, grabbing the phone. Thinking it was work, I said, "Hello," weakly into the phone.

"See, I knew we shouldn't have gone swimming. I knew someone was going to get a cold," Dani said cheerfully into the phone.

"Hi," I said, then I remembered last night.

"You aren't still sleeping, are you?" she asked.

"Considering what time I went to bed last night, yes," I said.

"You left around two," she said.

"Yeah, but it took me an hour or two to get back to my apartment," I said.

"Oh," she said, "guess what."

"What?" I said.

"We're leaving today," she said sadly.

"Where are you going?" I said.

"Cleveland, I think," she said, "but did Chris tell you about the Autumn Leaf Festival?"

"Yeah, he told me last night," I said.

"I'm going too. We're going to have that double date after all!" she said excitedly into the phone.

"Yea!," I said enthusiastic on her part.

"I have to go, but Chris wants to talk to you," she said, "c-ya."

"Bye," I said and waited for Chris to get on.

"Hey," he said.

"Hi," I said.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"Well, I was sleeping until I was woken up," I said.

"Who could do such a thing?" he asked.

"Hmm...I don't really know, do you?" I asked.

"No," he said.

"Really?" I said.

"I have to go also, I just wanted to say hi. But, I will talk to ya later," he said.

"Alright, bye,"I said.

"Bye," he said and then I hung up the phone.

"Spill it," Michelle said.

"Spill what?" I questioned nervously.

"Why is Dani being so nice?" she asked.

"Oh," I exclaimed, "I don't know. Yesterday, she was really nice and apologized to me for the other day."

"Really? I wonder why?" she asked aloud.

"Yeah, me too," I said.

"I'm thirsty, you want anything?" she asked.

"Nah," I said.

"Okay," she said and walked out of the room.

I got off the bed and followed her into the kitchen. She was pouring herself a drink when I walked in. I grabbed a hair band off the table and put my hair up.

As I did so, Michelle turned around, looked at me, and was about to leave the room when she swung back around. "Oh my god!" she exclaimed.

"What?" I asked.

She began to laugh and walked closer to me. She tilted my head and touched my neck. "Who did this to you?" she asked.

"Did what?" I asked, totally confused.

"Who gave you a hickey?" she asked.

"What!" I screamed as I ran to the bathroom. Michelle was right, I had a hickey.

"So, answer me. Who gave it to you?" she asked as she stood in the doorway, "wait, let me guess. JC."

"No," I said and pushed past her.

"Then who? Joey?" she asked.

"No," I said as I walked into my room.

"No, you didn't, you couldn't," she exclaimed.

I didn't want to tell her because I knew how she felt about what Chris and I did. Yet, I knew I couldn't lie to her.

"Tell me you didn't," she said.

All I could do was smile weakly at her.

"Jen," she yelled, "how could you do that?"

"I really don't know. One minute we're talking, and the next we're kissing," I said slowly.

"Jen, I don't want you to get hurt," she said, sitting down on my bed.

"I know, it's just. I think I still love him," I said softly.

"But you have to remember, he has a girlfriend. If she finds out, she'll be so hurt, like how you felt when Austin cheated on you. You loved him and he broke your heart. Tony did it to me and it still hurts. I don't want you to end up being hurt," she said.

"I know," I said.
