Chapter Twenty Six

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were quickly seated. We sat by a large bay window that looked over The Point (where the three rivers meet in Pittsburgh, or otherwise know as The Triangle). "What a beautiful view!" Dani remarked.

"Not as beautiful as you two," Nick said.

"Aw," Dani said.

'Okay?' I thought to myself.

"So Nick, what made you decide to be a lawyer?" Dani asked.

"Well, I guess since my father was one, I wanted to be one also," he said.

"What collage did you go to?" she asked.

"Harvard," he replied nonchalantly.

"You did! I've always wanted to go there!" she exclaimed.

"Why didn't you?" he asked.

"I don't know," she said, "why did you move up here?"

"My father lives up here and I decided I needed a change," he said.

"You know, I lived in Atlanta for awhile," she commented.

"Really? When?" he asked curiously.

"A couple of years ago," she said.

The waiter came up to the table and took our orders. Still, Dani and Mark flirted with each other as Chris and I watched helplessly.

I glanced over at Chris, he had no expression on his face, and I looked back over at Nick and Dani. Nick reached over and put his hand on hers. They were sharing this look, like lust; you could see it in their eyes. I was furious because I liked Nick and here they were, flirting right in front of Chris and I.

"Excuse me," I said and stood up. I quickly grabbed my coat and left. I was trying to get a taxi to pull over when Chris walked outside.

"Jen, are you okay?" he said.

"How can you be so calm about this?" I asked him as tears threatened to spill over.

"You think I'm calm? Well, I'm not. I'm extremely pissed right now," he said angrily.

"So am I," I said as tears streamed down my cheeks.

"Come here," he said and wrapped his arms around me. Just then, it started to rain.

"Let's get out of here," he said as a taxi pulled up to the sidewalk.

"Should we go back to my apartment?" I asked.

"Yeah," he said as we got into the taxi.

I told the driver my address and we arrived there fifteen minutes later. Chris paid the driver and we got out of the taxi. We walked into the building and onto my floor.

When we got into my apartment, it was empty. "I'm going to have to take care of something, but can I spend the night here?" he asked.

"Yeah," I said.

"Okay, I'll be back a little later," he said and grabbed Dani's suitcase.

"What are you going to do?" I asked.

"Give Dani her suitcase, I don't want her to come back here," he said and opened the front door.

"Okay, I'll see ya later," I said.

"Bye," he said and walked out the door.

"Okay?" I said aloud and sat down on the couch.

I woke up as I heard a knock at the door. 'I must have fallen asleep,' I thought to myself as I walked to the door. I opened it up and there stood Chris. He walked in and I shut the door. He sat down on the couch and looked up at me. I stood next to the couch and folded my arms, "What happened?"

He looked down and said, "I broke it off with her."

"Where is she now?" I asked.

"Probably on a plane back to San Diego," he said.

"Oh," I said and sat down next to him. I put my hand on his shoulder and said, "What did you say?"

"I went to the hotel where we were going to sleep at tonight and she was in the room waiting for me. She yelled at me for embarrassing her and I told her what I did to her wouldn't amount to what she did to me. Then, get this, she said, 'I'm sorry Nick.' I looked at her in shock and I guess she was pretty shocked too. At that point she knew it was over and said that she hoped I'd be able to forgive her. She took her suitcase and left," he said.

"I'm sorry," I said and put my arms around him, pulling him into a small hug.

We stayed in that position for awhile until he broke away a little and looked me in the eyes. He ran his hand over my cheek, caressing it. He looked down at my lips and then back into my eyes. He slowly leaned forward and kissed me softly. He ran his other hand up and down my arm as the passion between us grew. He pulled me into his lap and began to kiss my neck. He ran his right hand through my hair as the other one moved to my lower back.

We became very intimate, as Michelle walked into the house. We broke away immediatly and looked at her.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know you were here," she stuttered in humiliation.

"It's okay," I said as I got out of his lap.

"Well, um, I'm going to my room now," she said and left.

"Now what do you want to do?" he asked.

"I don't know," I said.

He looked out the window, then looked back at me, "Do you want to go and play out in the rain?"

"What? Why?" I asked in bewilderment.

"Because," he said and got up from the couch, "come on."

"Okay," I said and followed him out the door.

We walked out of the building and down the street. It was dark, but the streetlights guided our way. We ended up in a park and it was still raining, but not as bad. He took my hand in his as we walked.

Suddenly, there was a flash of lightning that lit up the sky. He looked over at me and I looked at him. We began to kiss as the rain grew heavier and saturated us. He backed me up against a tree and slipped his tongue in my mouth. I moaned slightly as he ran his hand under my shirt. I ran my hands across his chest and through his hair. He unbuttoned my shirt and slipped it down off of my shoulders. He began to kiss my exposed skin.

My hands reached the bottom of his shirt and lifted it up over his head and discarded it onto the ground. He moved back up and began to kiss my lips again as his hands slowly crept under my skirt. My hands tugged at the top of his pants and began to unbutton it.

Just then, a big bolt of lightning flash right by us. We jumped in surprise and looked at each other. We began to laugh and I said, "Maybe we should go."

"Yeah, that's a good idea," he said as he put his shirt back on and buttoned his pants back up. I also put my shirt back on and we left the park, heading for my apartment.
