Chapter Thirty Three

‘I can’t believe I’m going through with this,’ I thought to myself as I boarded the plane to Orlando. It’s November 22, three days before Thanksgiving and Michelle practically forced me onto the plane. Chris called only three times since Clarion and every time I talked to him, he had to go. Thank god for Maricar. I’m going to be spending a lot of time with her. She and I already have plans for tonight.

“This is so exciting,” Michelle said as she fastened her seatbelt.

I flipped through the pages of the magazine I brought before we boarded the plane. Nothing interesting in it, so I set it aside. I looked out the window as the plane began to take off. I’ve always loved being high in the air. It was always some sort of rush to me.

Four hours later, the plane finally landed in Orlando. As we were heading over to get our luggage, a pair of hands grabbed my waist from behind. In fright, I elbowed the person in the stomach and turned around.

“Aw,” Chris said as he backed up a few steps.

“Sorry, you scared me,” I said as Michelle walked over to us, laughing at what she saw.

“That was priceless,” she said between giggles.

“Yeah that was,” said someone behind me.

I turned around slowly and my mouth dropped open, “Dani? What are you going here?”

“Surprised to see me?” she asked with a laugh.

“A little,” I said as she hugged me.

“I’m sure your both tired,” Chris started, “so lets go.”

I quickly grabbed my suitcase and tagged along, lost in my own thoughts.

“So this is it,” Chris said after he got done with taking us on a tour of his mom’s house.

“Where is your mom?” I asked as I sat down on the couch in the living room.

“Shopping with my sisters,” he said.

“How are they?” I asked.

“Oh, they’re great. Emily’s in a singing group,” he said smiling.

“That’s great. Are they good?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he said.

After a few moments of silence, I asked, “Can I use your phone?”

“Yeah, it’s down the hallway to the left,” Chris said.

“Thanks,” I said as I exited the room.

I heard Dani whispering about me asking why I was so surprised when I saw her. Chris’s response was, “I don’t know.”

‘Maybe if you would have told me,’ I thought to myself as I located the phone. I picked it up and dialed Maricars number.

“Hello?” she said after she picked it up.

“Hey girl, what’s up?” I asked.

“Are you in Orlando yet?” she asked.

“Yeah, I just got here about an hour ago,” I said.

“Are we still going out tonight? I got a date for you,” she said.

“Who?” I asked.

“A friend of mine,” she said.

“When are we going out?” I asked.

“We have to be at Club Paradise around 8, so I’ll pick you up at 7:30,” she said, “you’re at Chris’s mom’s house, right?”

“Yup, do you know where its at?” I asked.

“Yeah, Justin took me over there a lot,” she said.

“Okay, so I’ll see you at 7:30?” I said.

“Yeah, right on the dot,” she said.

“Okay, bye,” I said.

“Bye,” she said.

After I hung up the phone, Dani said, “Where are you going at 7:30?”

I jumped when I heard her. I didn’t even know she was behind me, “Dani, you scared me.”

“Sorry. Where are you going?” she asked.

“I’m going out to a club with Maricar,” I said.

“That’s cool, it’s a shame what happened though,” she said.

“How’d you find out?” I asked.

“I was there when it happened,” she said, “that’s so sad she had to find out that way.”

“Can I ask you a question?” I asked, this question has been bothering me all night.

“Sure, shot.”

“When did you and Chris get back together?” I asked.

“What are you talking about?” she asked confused.

“I thought you and Chris broke up,” I said.

“No,” she said, “we didn’t brake up. What are you talking about?”

“Didn’t you and Chris brake up before he and I headed up to Clarion?” I asked, even more confused than she was.

“No, why?” she asked.

“Oh,” I said, realizing that Chris was a lying son of a bitch; “you left so abruptly, I figured that you two broke up.”

“No, my mom was sick so I decided to fly back down here,” she said.

“Is she okay?” I asked, suddenly angry with myself for being so stupid.

“Yes, thank you,” she said.

“I’m going to go head up to my room now and get ready, I’ll probably see you later or tomorrow,” I said, walking toward the stairs.

“What club are you going to?” she asked.

“Club Paradise,” I replied as I walked up the stairs.

‘I can’t believe he lied,” I thought to myself as I pulled out some clothes for tonight. I am so angry at this moment; I could just kill him for leading me on the way he did.

I quickly changed into a pair of leather pants and a tight fitting black shirt. I applied some make up and fixed my hair. I was just about finished when I heard a horn beep. I looked out the window and sure enough, it was Maricar.

I grabbed my jacket and walked downstairs.

“Where are you going?” Chris asked when he saw me.

“Out,” I said.

“Where is she going?” he asked Dani.

“Out,” Dani said following my game, “didn’t you hear her?”

“Jen, where are you going?” he asked as I reached the front door. I turned around slowly and spelled the word for him, “O-U-T, out.”

With that, I opened the door and walked out. Dani followed after me, laughing. “Hi Maricar,” she said as we reached the car.

“Hello,” she said.

“You realize Jen, he’s going to be so difficult tonight,” Dani said laughing, “he gets mad over the silliest things.”

“Yeah, but you have to put up with it, so good luck,” I said as I got into the car.

“Thanks, I’ll need it,” she said as she walked toward the house.

“That’s what I forgot to tell you,” Maricar said as she pulled away.

“Forgot to tell me what?” I asked.

“That he’s going back out with her,” she said as she switched lanes.

“No he’s not,” I said.

“Well, last time I saw them together, it did appear that way,” she said.

“No, they never broke up,” I said annoyed.

“They what?” she said shocked, “did you know.”

“No, he told me that they did brake up.”

“What an asshole,” she said.

“I know,” I said.
