Chapter Forty One

I laid down on my bed after breakfast. Chris got into the shower, which allowed me to think through my thoughts. I’m still in shock that we did that. Yeah, I was lonely, but he wasn’t. He had a girlfriend that he should have been faithful to. But, I was her friend and I shouldn’t have done that to her either. I know what it feels like to be cheated on and I hope Dani doesn’t find out.

“You look so cute, Jen,” Chris said.

I looked up and saw him standing in the doorway, leaning against it. “What do you mean?” I asked.

“Your laying there, twisting a strand of your hair and appear to be in deep thought. What are you thinking about?”

“Nothing really.”

“You sure it was just, ‘nothing really?”

“Yeah,” I said and sat up on the bed. He walked over towards me and sat on the bed next to me. I kissed him softly on the cheek.

He returned the kiss and reached over to get his bag. He pulled out some clothes and quickly got dressed.

“How long are you going to be here?” I asked.

“Until your sick of me,” he said with a laugh.

“But won’t everyone get suspicious?”

“I won’t stay that long Jen. I’ll probably leave tomorrow.”

“Oh.”

“So,” he began after he was fully clothed, “what do you want to do now?”

“Can we just talk for a little bit?”

“Yeah,” he said and sat back down on the bed.

We talked for three hours. We went through everything from our past to future. He made it perfectly clear that he enjoyed last night, and wouldn’t mind doing it again. But every time I would try to tell him that we’re not going to have a repeat of last night, he would interrupt me or kiss, something to make me shut up.

Finally, we decided that it was dinnertime, so I ordered in pizza. It seemed like old times though. We were watching a football game on TV and eating pizza. We used to do this all the time in high school, except his friends were there too.

After the football game, Chris turned to me and said, “You’re practically the only girl I know that enjoys football games as much as guys.”

“I always have, Chris.”

“In high school, I didn’t think you really liked watching them.”

“Why?”

“You were never watching the TV.”

I turned my head in embarrassment. I was always looking at Chris because I had the biggest crush on him; in fact, we didn’t start dating until almost the end of eleventh grade.

“You’re blushing,” he teased.

“No I’m not and you now why I wasn’t watching the TV.”

“I know,” he said and kissed me gingerly on the lips.

“Yeah, well I know for a fact that you didn’t take your sister to dance classes and stay to make sure she stayed out of trouble.”

Now it was his turn to blush. He did admit to me before that he took his sister to dance classes so he could watch me because I was the student helper.

“But you looked so hot in that skimpy little outfit.”

“Why do you think I wore that one every Wednesday when your sister had class?” “To taunt me.”

“Exactly,” I said and kissed him on the lips.

I watched as Chris got onto the plane. A feeling of emptiness washed over my body. We spent so much time together these past two days; I didn't want him to leave. I stood there and watched the plane take off. I decided to go back home after that.

As I was driving, memories of last night popped in my head. After the football game, we made love again. We laid in bed practically all morning, holding each other. This afternoon we went shopping and had a lot of fun.

My mind continued to drift off until a familiar song came on the radio. I turned up the volume and blasted Boys II Men’s I’ll Make Love To You. I smiled as I remember how romantic he was.

“Shit,” I said to myself as I saw fire trucks in front of my apartment. I had to park my car a block away. I raced as I saw my neighbor standing there, “What happened?”

“It’s not us, thank god. It’s the one next to us,” she said and pointed the other complex.

“What happened?”

“I don’t know.”

A half an hour later, the fire trucks were gone and there wasn’t that much damage to that complex. I slowly walked up to my apartment and unlocked the door.

I quickly walked in and sat down. The sudden ringing of the phone made me jump. I reached over and picked it up, “Hello?”

“I miss you.”

“Chris, you haven’t been away from me that long,” I said laughing.

“Nuh uh, it’s been long enough,” he whined.

“Well, what are you going to do later tonight? Miss me more?”

“Don’t remind me,” he said, “but I did call for a reason.”

“What did you call for?”

“I wanted to know if you’d fly up to New York on Tuesday.”

“What! Why?” I asked. It was Saturday the 27th, that only gave me a two-day notice, “Don’t you think that’s too sudden to ask me?”

“I miss you. I wanna see you again,” he whined.

“Why are you up in New York?”

“For that Tree Lighting Ceremony.”

“I don’t know if I can, I already took a few days off from work to visit you already.”

“So?”

“So! I might get fired.”

“He’s your uncle, he won’t fire you.”

“How do you know?”

“You know what Jen,” he said, changing the subject, “do you want to know what I wanna do to you right now,” his voice lowered to a whisper dripping with seduction.

“What?” I managed to squeak out.

“I want to lowly unbutton that top your wearing, then want take off that bra. What color is it again?”

“Chris, we shouldn’t…”

“Uh yes, black,” he said, interrupting me, ”I’ll take it off and throw it on the floor next to your shirt. I’ll kiss and caress…”

“Chris, don’t. I don’t want to do this. Why don’t you call Dani and say that to her.”

“I already did, she wasn’t home.”

“You what?” I asked, not sure I heard him.

“You know, there’s this girl that has the tightest ass I’ve ever seen.”

“Why are you doing this?” I asked as I felt my eyes water.

“Oh Jen,” he said with a laugh, “I’m just playing. I didn’t call Dani and there isn't a girl with the tightest ass I’ve ever seen. I was just trying to make you jealous, I’m sorry.”

“Well it worked,” I said and I wiped my eyes.

“I’m sorry. You forgive me?”

“Yeah.”

“Great, so I’ll see you Tuesday?”

“Yeah.”

“Cool, call me when you when you know when your going to get up there.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll call you later,” he said.

“Okay.”

“Bye.”

“Bye,” I said and hung up the phone. Unfortunately, he never did call that night or Monday either. In fact, I called him Tuesday, right after I was about to go to the airport.

“Hello,” he said as he answered his cell phone.

“Chris! Where have you been? I tried calling you yesterday,” I said as I finished packing my suitcase.

“I’m sorry, I’ve been busy.”

“It’s okay,” I said as I drug my suitcase out of my room and by the door.

“Are you still coming?”

“Yeah, I’m leaving now. I should arrive in New York around eight.”

“How come you scheduled it so late.”

“I don’t know. I had to work today, my uncle wasn’t happy with me not being in work tomorrow or the day after.”

“I’m happy you’re coming, though.”

“What hotel are you guys staying at?”

“The Hilton. I got you a room, it’s across from mine.”

“Thank you.”

“No problem.”

“Well, if I don’t go, I’m going to miss my plane. See you soon, Chris.”

“Bye.”

“Bye,” I said and hung up the phone. I quickly walked out of my apartment and locked the room. I pulled my suitcase down the stairs and out to my car. I quickly got in and drove away…
