Chapter Forty Two

I wrapped my coat tighter to my body as the cold air hit me when I stepped off the plane. I walked into the airport and went to the luggage claim. I got my suitcase and walked outside. I got into a cab and told him to take me to the Hilton.

We got there about a half an hour later. I went to the front desk and got my key. I walked over to the elevator and hit the up button, waiting patiently for one of the doors to open.

Finally one of the doors open and Dani stepped out. “Jen!” she squealed and gave me a hug.

“Hi Dani,” I said.

“I’m so happy you’re here. We have to hang out tomorrow. Meet me at my room tomorrow around noon and we can go shopping.”

“Okay,” I said with a smile.

“I’ll talk to you later, I’m sorta on the go. Bye!”

“Bye,” I called to her as she left.

I missed that elevator, but another opened. I got in and hit the button for the eleventh floor. As I walked toward my room, Joey stepped out of his.

“Hey Jen,” he said with a warm smile on his face.

“Hi,” I said, returning the smile.

“Do you wanna go clubbin with us?”

“I would love to, but I’m really tired. I’m not used to airplanes,” I explained.

“Oh, I know how that is. Well, maybe tomorrow,” he said with a hopeful look on his face.

“Yeah,” I said.

“I’ll see you later,” he said and walked down the hall.

I opened the door to my room and set my suitcase down on the bed and walked into the bathroom. I took a quick shower and walked back into my room. I jumped when I saw Chris sitting on my bed, “What are you doing here?”

“Just wanted to say hi,” he said with a mischievous look on his face. He stood up and walked over to me.

I backed away a little and held the towel more securely around my body. On that plane ride, I had a lot of time to think.

“Don’t act shy now,” he whispered and came closer.

“Is this why you brought me up here? Because you wanted to have sex with me again?” I asked, not sure of his intentions.

“No,” he said and caressed my cheek.

I moved my head to the side, so he wouldn’t touch me.

“What?” he said, raising his voice.

“We can’t do this. You’re with Dani.”

“It didn’t bother you before,” he said with a smirk.

“I was lonely, but you shouldn’t be. You have someone. Someone that is very special.”

“Why are you doing this?” he asked and kissed me on my lips. When I failed to respond, he pressed harder.

When I managed to push him away, he got mad and yelled, “What is your problem? What is it? Are you too good for me?”

“No.”

“Then what’s wrong?” he asked sweetly and kissed me again.

“Stop,” I said annoyed and pushed him away again, “please leave.”

“You don’t want me to leave,” he said and tried to kiss me, but I moved so that he couldn’t.

“I’m serious, please leave.”

“Fine,” he shouted, “You’re going to regret your decision though.” He gave me another smirk and left my room.

I quickly got dress and laid down on the bed. His comment made me wonder, ‘What does he mean?’

I fell asleep soon after and woke up around eleven thirty. I got changed into jeans and a black sweater. I brushed my hair down and brushed my teeth. I bought on a pair of boots. I grabbed my purse, my jacket, and my keys and left the room.

I walked across the hall and knocked on Dani’s door. There was no answer, so I knocked again. Slowly the door opened and revealed a sobbing Dani.

“Dani, what’s wrong?” I asked her and gave her a hug.

“Don’t touch me,” she said and backed away.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“You know what the hell is wrong Jen. You just can’t get your own man. I loved him!” she yelled.

“Dani,” I said shocked, “I’m sorry. It was a mistake. I ended it immediately.”

“Bullshit. It wasn’t just once.”

“Who told you?”

“Who do you think,” she said in a way that made me feel even dumber.

“Did Chris tell you?” I asked, almost afraid of the answer.

“Yes,” she hissed.

“I’m really sorry.”

“No your not you little tramp. I don’t ever want to see you again. I don’t want you near me or near Chris. Do you understand me?”

“Yes,” I said quietly as some tears ran down my cheek.

“Now get the hell out of my site, you disgust me.”

I walked out of the room and she slammed the door shut. I looked down the hall and Chris was standing there with Justin. He smirked at me and continued talking to Justin. I walked into my room and laid down in bed.

I called the airport and scheduled a flight for ten. I figured I’d leave the hotel around eight because they had to be at that show by that time.

As I laid in bed thinking, I thought of how much I hated Chris at this minute. He did it intentionally, just because I wouldn’t sleep with him. I’ll never forgive him.

Around seven thirty, I managed to get up and re-pack my suitcase. When eight rolled by, I was ready to go. I grabbed my suitcase and headed downstairs. I turned in my key and flagged down a taxi.

Pretty soon I was at the airport and sitting on the plane. Memories hit me all at once. I remembered the first time that I met Chris to the last time that we slow danced. I made up my mind on the plane; I was going to banish myself from thinking or speaking of Chris or any of them. I don’t need them.

Once back in my apartment, anger had built up in me that I spent an hour trashing the place, I broke everything that reminded me of Chris. Then I spent the next hour after that crying. I made a pact to myself right then and there that I would never ever cry over a man again…

THE END
