Chapter Eight

"So Joey, what are you doing tonight?" asked Abby, a good friend of Justin’s, after we got to Justin's house after rehearsal.

"I'm meeting up with somebody," he said.

"Who?" she asked.

"Angela," he replied.

"Who's she?" she asked.

"My high school sweetheart," he said.

As soon as he said that, I immediately thought of my high school sweetheart, Jen. I miss her so much. 'I wonder what she's doing right now?' I thought.

I always loved her, but lately I thought about her more and more. I missed how she always laughed at my jokes and how she helped me study. 'God, I miss her so much,' I thought.

"Chris!?!" Justin shouted.

"What?" I asked.

"We asked you a question," he said.

"What did you say?" I asked.

"We asked 'What are you doing tonight," he said.

"Oh, well. I don't know," I said.

"We're all going club'n, you game?" Abby asked.

"No, not tonight," I said and stood up from where I was sitting. I quickly walked to my room, wanting sometime to think.

After I entered my room, I sat down at my desk and looked at the picture of my family sitting there. I slowly reached down to open my bottom drawer. I pulled it open and grabbed the photo album that was under a stack of papers. I got up and brought the photo album to my bed. I then sat down and opened it.

The first few pages were of my family and I, but the more I turned the pages, the closer I am to seeing her again in a way. I stopped turning pages and looked down at her smiling face.

The picture was taken a couple days after I met her. We became good friends in 5th grade. I turned to the next page and saw pictures of my birthday party. She was there. I turned the pages some more and stopped at our senior Christmas Dance.

That was the day before the accident. I was so happy that night. That evening was so perfect.

~Flashback~

"Oh Chris, I had a wonderful time. Thank you," Jen said as she leaned in and kissed me.

"Your welcome," I said and returned the kiss. She then opened the front door of her house and said, "Goodnight Chris."

"Night," I said and turned around, then walked to my house.

~End Of Flashback~

'It only seems like yesterday,' I thought to myself. I had talked to my grandmother the other day on the phone and she told me that she saw Jen a couple weeks ago downtown in Pittsburgh. She also told me that Jen was living with her sister Michelle.

"Chris," Justin shouted.

"Yeah," I said as I arose from my bed and walked out of my room. I quickly walked to the top of the stairs.
