Chapter Two

We came back to my apartment around 10:00 that night. "Monica, I'm just going to crash here," Ashley stated and walked into the spare bedroom, but in actuality is practically hers.

I walked into my room and changed into my nightgown. I set my alarm clock for tomorrow and laid down on my bed, soon falling into a peaceful slumber.

I awoke the next morning to the sound of my alarm clock. It was 7:00, so I changed into sweats and put on my shoes.

I walked out the complex and began my routine jog. I came back to the apartment around 7:45 and took a shower. I changed into my dance clothes with jeans and a tee shirt over it and then I ate some breakfast.

After I got done eating, I brushed my teeth and hair. When I was ready to go, I walked into the room where Ashley was sleeping and quickly scribbled down on a piece of paper that I was leaving.

I walked out the door and ventured my way to the studio. I got to the studio around 8:45 and I quickly spotted Mark. "Hi," I said as I walked toward him.

"You’re not going to dance with those on, are you?" he asked, referring to my jeans.

"No," I said and took them off along with my tee shirt. I put the items into my bag just as Darren walked into the room."Good morning everyone," he said cheerfully," I hope everyone has stretched because we're going to work hard today."

"Yea," I muttered. Mark must have heard me because he began to laugh.

Darren looked over at us and said, "Let's get started." He put us into lines. I was in the back, to the side. He then began to slowly go through the initial steps when I heard people behind me. 'No, there isn't anyone there. Your just nervous,' I thought to myself.

I then heard someone laugh, so I turned around slightly. Sure enough, there was Justin, Joey, Lance, JC, and Chris behind me, sitting down on the chairs set up back there. I quickly turned around and began to concentrate on what Darren was doing.

An hour later, Darren said, "Very good so far. I see lots of improvement already. You may take a break now."

Everyone in the room scattered into little groups right after he said that.

"Y’all did good, but I don't want ya to be disappointed because we're better," Justin said, standing up on a chair.

"Shut up," Joey said playfully and pushed Justin off the chair.

"Hey now, that was uncalled for," Justin said in a motherly tone.

"God, we can't take either of you anywhere," Chris said.

I walked over to my stuff and take out my bottle of water.

"Tired?" Mark asked as I drank some water.

"Sorta," I said and sat Indian style on the floor. I felt the presence of someone behind me, so I turned my head and saw JC standing there.

"Hi, I'm JC," he said and crouched down beside me.

"Hello, I'm Monica," I said in shock because I never thought I'd actually talk to him.

"You’re a really good dancer," he said, referring to practice.

"Thank you," I said as I started to blush, "you’re a really good dancer and singer."

He smiled and said, "Thank you."

"So, how come you aren't practicing with us?" I asked curiously.

"Curiosity killed the cat," he said with a smirk.

"Satisfaction brought him back," I said returning the smirk.

"Well," he said chuckling, "if you must know, Darren already taught us and we just wanted to observe."

"Observing for what?" I asked.

"To see who all we're dancing with," he said and flashed me a smile.

"So, do you like what you see?" I asked flirtatiously.

He looked me up and down and then said, "Hell yeah."

"Breaks over," Darren aid as he walked back into the room, "back to work."

"I'll see you later," JC said and walked back to his friends.

I stood up and walked back to my position. I worked as hard as I could so I didn't make a fool of myself infront of JC and his friends.

A few hours later, Darren said, "Okay, we're done for today. You all did a fantastic job!"

"Yes," some people said, as they walked to away to get their things.

"Hey Monica," JC said.

"Hi," I said and picked up my bag.

"You did good today," he said.

"Thank you," I said with a smile.

"Would you like to go out tonight?" he asked.

"Sure," I said.

"Okay," I'll pick you up at eight," he said.

"That sounds good, I'll see you then, bye," I said and walked out of the studio.

I walked into my apartment in a happy mood. I walked into the bathroom and slipped off my clothes. I turned on the water and got into the shower. I quickly washed myself, them got out. I wrapped a towel around my body and walked into my bedroom. I pulled out a pair of black pants and a navy blue shirt.

I brushed my hair and began to blow-dry it as I remember something. "Oh no," I said aloud and dropped the hairdryer, "shit! He doesn't even know my address. Dammit!"

The telephone rang and interrupted my thoughts. I picked it up on the third ring and said, "Hello?"

"Hey girl," Ashley said.

"Hi," I said, but with a little attitude.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"I got asked out today and didn't even tell him my address," I said, sitting down on my bed.

"He asked you?" he asked, but sounded more like stated.

"How did you know?" I asked.

"What? How did I know what?" she asked nervously.

"You said, 'he asked you?' Why did you say that? How do you know?" I asked, wondering why she said that.

"No, I said, 'Who asked you," she said.

"Oh, sorry. Well, you'll never guess," I said.

"Just tell me," she said unenthusiastically.

"JC!" I said.

"Oh my goodness!! You’re so lucky!!! I hate you," she said.

"I know, I know. I can't believe it this is just so, I don't know, amazing. But.... We don't have a date," I said sadly.

"What? Why not?" she asked.

"He said he'd pick me up, but he doesn't know where I live," I said frowning.

"Get ready anyway. I have a feeling that he'll find your address," she said, "but I gotta go. Call me later and tell me how it went." With that she hung up.

"Okay," I said and hung up the phone.

'I might as well get ready,' I thought to myself and began to blow-dry my hair again. When my hair was dry and brushed nicely, I put my outfit on. I then put on my make up and when I was done, it was already 7:00. I put on my shoes and walked into the living room. I sat down on the couch and turned on the TV.

Just as I turned it on, the phone rang, "Hello?"

"Hi dear," said my mom.

"Hi Mom," I said.

"So, what are you up to tonight?" she asked.

"I have a date," I said.

"That's nice. With whom?" she asked.

"A boy," I said.

"No kidding. What's his name?" she asked.

"JC," I replied nonchalantly.

"What's he like," she asked.

"Uh, mom," I said as I heard knocking at the door, "I have to call you back because he's here. Bye Mom, love you."

"Bye Dear," she said.

I hung up the phone and got up from the couch. I walked over to the door and opened it. There he was, looking as fine as can be. "Hi," I said when I finally found my voice after a few minutes of just looking at each other.

"Hey," he said, "you ready?"

"Yeah," I said and grabbed my purse off the stand next to the door. We silently walked down the stairs and out the building. "So, where are we going tonight?" I asked as we got into the waiting cab.

"To dinner," he said. He was wearing khakis and a white wife beater with a blue shirt over it. He looked good. "You look beautiful," he said.

I blushed at the comment and said, "You look really good too."

He smiled at me and I smiled back. "Do you like Chinese?" he asked.

"Yeah," I said.

"Good because I got us reservations at this little Chinese restaurant," he said.

We sat there in silence for a while, until a decided to break it by asking a question that has been bothering me, "How did you know where I live?"

"Well, um," he said, "I looked you up in the yellow pages."

"But I didn't tell you my last name," I said.

"I, uh, I asked Darren," he said.

"Oh," I said and looked out the window.
