"Mandi, are you all right?" My thoughts were broken at the sound of my best friend's voice. I turned toward the doorway, and there he stood, a concerned look on his face.
"Yeah, I'm fine, Lancey, just have a lot on my mind right now."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No, not really."
"Come on Mandi, you've always been able to tell me everything, when did that change?" He walked over and sat on the bed beside me, putting his arm around my shoulder. "I want to help you, Mandi, but I can't if you won't let me know what's wrong. You haven't been yourself in a couple of weeks, please tell me what's going on."
"I wish I could . . ."
"You CAN, but you just won't. Please, let me help you sweetie."
I turned to look at him, and saw the concern in his eyes. I wanted to tell him, but I was afraid of how he'd react. I didn't want to see the hate and disappointment I was afraid would be in his eyes.
"Let's just say I made a mistake that screwed over my life."
"What mistake?"
"I can't tell you."
"Mandi, I don't know what's wrong, but it must be pretty bad to have you so upset like this. We've been friends forever, ever since we were little. We've never had secrets before. I begging you, please let me know what's going on in your life. I love you like you were a part of my family, as if you were my sister. Now, please, just tell me."
I sighed as I looked at him. I knew he wasn't going to give up, I was going to have to tell him eventually, I couldn't keep it a secret forever. I took a deep breath as I summoned up all my courage and looked him in the eyes.
"I'm pregnant, Lance."
