Chapter Seven

"I'm beginning to look like a balloon." I complained as I looked at my now expanding stomach in the mirror.

"But you're a CUTE balloon," Lance told me as he wrapped his arms around me from behind and rested his hands on my abdomen. "Besides, it's okay to look like a balloon when there's a baby in there."

"Easy for you to say, it's not happening to you."

"I know it's not, but if there were anyway that I could take all your discomfort from you, I would."

"You're too good to me, you know that?" I questioned as I turned to face him. "Sometimes I wonder how you put up with me."

"Because I love you so much."

"You still treat me too good."

"No I don't, you deserve it. Are you ready to go? We're going to be late."

"Yeah, I'm ready."

We were going to the doctor for my five month check up, and I think Lance was more excited than I was. I had already had two or three appointments, but this was the first one Lance would be going to with me, the other ones he had always been busy and unable to go.

When we got to the doctors office, I was, surprisingly, taken in almost immediately and after a short wait, the doctor finally came in.

"Well, hello there Mrs. Bass. You ready for another sonogram?"

"Yup, sure am. Is there anyway you could take some of the still photos of the baby? I didn't get any last time and I'd like some for the baby book."

"That shouldn't be a problem. In fact, if you'd like we can do a video for you as well."

"Really? Oh that would be great, I'd really appreciate it Dr. Jameson."

"Well then, let's get this started."

She gently pushed up my shirt, exposing my slightly rounded stomach. A few seconds after she touched the sonogram to my skin, a fuzzy blob appeared on the screen. I glanced over at Lance and saw him gazing at the screen, a look of love and amazement on his face.

"So, what do you think?" I asked him quietly.

"That's it? That's our baby?"

"Yes sir, it is," The doctor replied. "And it's in the right position if you'd like to know the sex."

"I'd rather not," I told her. "I've just always wanted to wait until I deliver to find out."

"Okay, that's fine. Everything seems to be okay, the rate of growth is good, the heart rate is strong. It looks like . . ." Suddenly she stopped mid-sentance and looked intently at the screen, moving the wand around my abdomen. "Well, isn't that interesting."

"What is it, what's wrong?"

"Well, it seems I missed something on your last sonogram."

"What did you miss? Is there something wrong with my baby?"

"No, your baby is perfectly fine and healthy. Both of them are."
