Road to Recovery

Last year, several women from the Global Wrestling Federation's past made their return to compete in the rejuvenated Women's division. One of those women was Rose Grace, who is known to GWF fans as Dragon. Known for her mat prowess and green mask, Dragon has been a major part of the GWF for sixteen years. In 1997, only six years into her career, Dragon opted to retire after nagging back injuries began to build up. Almost nine years later, she made her return, along with Lariat and Monoxide Mare, to the GWF rings. Unfortunately, the wear and tear that a professional wrestler's body entails was a bit too much, and the reason Rose originally retired came back to haunt her.

''Even after taking eight years off, my back just couldn't handle the bumps,'' Rose said. After consulting with several doctors, it was decided that she would go under the knife. On January 22nd, Rose had spinal fusion surgery, the same surgery that repaired the spines of Rhino, Chris Beniot, Amy Dumas, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. ''I'm part of a pretty elite club as far as our sport goes,'' Rose joked.

Her recovery has already surpassed that of other wrestlers who have had the spinal fusion. Within two days, Rose was on her feet, albeit gingerly. Today, she walks around on her own power. But she doesn't want to rush a return to the ring.

''So far the recovery is going a lot faster than expected,'' Rose said, ''But I wouldn't expect to see the Dragon tearing up the ring untill Battle of the Titans XVIII, just to be safe.''

As the Dragon, Rose is a former four-time World Women's Champion, with victories over Misty Blue Simmes, Heidi Lee Morgan, and a very memorable feud with Lariat. After her feud with Lariat lasted for the better part of three years, the two buried the hatchet and became the first female duo to capture the GWF World Tag Team Championships from the mixed duo of female competitor Lizard and cruiserweight standout Hornet.

Dragon was primed to have a great career, as she trained under the great Ricky ''the Dragon'' Steamboat and later Ultimo Dragon. With all the championships under her belt, and a very promising future, Rose is carrying the Dragon legacy proudly.
