I Had The Pleasure Talking To
Henrick:(Lead Guitarist)Of The Band:KOLDBORN
On December 17/2000
(Eddie):Where did you get your band name from and who came up with it?
(Henrick):
I came up with the name Coldborn a couple of months after we started playing, but we changed it to Koldborn due to the graphical design, it simply came out a lot more balanced after changing the C to a K. The name does not mean anything. It is just a cool little trick with words which can be understood differently by everyone. It could very well bear the meaning of an omen which tells the story of the ultimate evil being born lifeless, but alive nonetheless - a paradox of life and death which is, as I see it, the very essence of death metal.
(Eddie):Tell us a little history of how the band formed?
(Henrick):
Rasmus and I (ex Icon of Sin) formed the band in '97 and later Martin and Casper (ex Saturation) joined in to complete the line-up. This constellation rehearsed and recorded the '99 demo "Blessed By Beyond" with Jan Borsing. About six months later, Casper was replaced by Andreas (ex Golem) due to musical
differences (the same old story once again!!!). Koldborn received a lot of overwhelming reviews and other positive response to "Blessed By Beyond" and was signed by Die Hard Records mid '00. Koldborn is scheduled to record the coming CD. primo '01, and it will be a killer since we have evolved a lot as musicians since the "Blessed by Beyond" demo, so watch out for Koldborn full-length CD!!! Detailed band story can be found at our site at:KOLDBORN
(Eddie):Where can we purchase your CD, and how much?
(Henrick):
At the moment, all we have left is a few demotapes. We'll make 50 hand-numbered CDR's with the 5 songs from the demo + the newly recorded promo track entitled "The Embrace of Thanatos" Comes in b/w cover. Check our distributers also, they have the tape, all distributers are listed at our homepage.Or if you wish to write to us...You can by snail mail...

(Eddie):What was your most memorable experience making the CD or playing a gig or both?
(Henrick):Probably when we did our last gig in Copenhagen at Loppen. Having played about half of our set, a fan enters the stage completely naked (!!!) and extremely drunk (of course) and starts running around on the stage while trying to sing along with Martin, getting his hair stuck in my guitar and falling into the drum kit REALLY hard (must have hurt like hell!!!) but what the hell, he got his five minutes of fame, and we got a
good laugh!!! Or maybe it was the unbearable hours of waiting while recording "Blessed By Beyond". All that waiting was spend with a Vidcam recorder (very bad idea) and thereby producing three video hours of intoxication, nakedness, sexist bad humour, messing up the equipment and annoying Jan (producer) plus other unspeakable blasphemous acts of our feeble minds.
(Eddie):What are the bands influences?
(Henrick):Our influences change a lot from song to song as we write the material. Rasmus And I write the music, and I think that our influences are as wide as from J.S. Bach to Pearl Jam to Iron Maiden to Malevolent Creation to Symphony X to Meshuggah. Both of us listen to a lot of different music (and play lots of styles too!) but of course we are mainly influenced by other heavy metal bands as we write heavy material. But I think that
it is very important to drag other kinds of music into the process of writing music, to be able to create new and groundbreaking material, and not just rely on the safe and conservative solutions, which would lead to a complete creative breakdown as nothing new and exiting would find its way into new music. We are very aware of the fact that we play and write music and not just death metal, but music which is basically based on the same musical theory as Spice Girls, J.S. Bach, Pearl Jam etc. We try to see through the narrow-mindedness that is unfortunately very dominating in the world of heavy metal.
(Eddie):How would you describe your bands sound?
(Henrick):The actual sound on "Blessed By Beyond" was in a review described as "molten lava guitars..." Which I think is a pretty good description of our sound. The drums and guitar/bass are very clear so that you can hear everything that goes on in the music, this is one thing that we have received a lot of positive feedback on. The vocals performed by Martin is more varied than any other death metal band I can come up with, he uses a wide spectre of techniques as he growls, screams, snarls and shouts out the lyrics and that is actually why he was chosen as vocalist in the first place, we wanted musicians who had their own sound and knew their instruments/ voices well enough to express a wide spectre of emotions through them. In some of our reviews, we are compared to Morbid Angel, Altar, Deicide, In Flames and Iron Maiden so as you can see we have a wide variety of comparisons. I hope that on the coming full-length CD by Koldborn, we will once again get a clean sound which still can be described as brutal.
(Eddie):If we were to come see you live, what can we expect to see?
(Henrick):We want to give people a killer experience by delivering our music in the best possible way, and that is by reaching the audience through personal contact. We try to show as much energy as possible on stage, and we have always been told that we are an excellent live band. So come and check us out when you get
the chance, and we'll bang/mosh/dive you till death!!
(Eddie):Who produced the CD and where?
(Henrick):Our Demo "Blessed By Beyond" was Produced by Jan Borsing (Illdisposed, Konkhra, Invocator, Iniquity etc.) as we got the chance to work with this fantastic producer very cheap. We recorded it in our home town of Glamsbjerg in Jaust Huset.
(Eddie):What made you want to become a musician and who if a band or individual?
(Henrick):The reason that I became a musician was that I have always played music of some sort, I started out playing keyboard but then discovered the guitar and instantly switched over. I can't find any particular artist or band that made me become a musician, just my all around fascination of music, and especially heavy metal! I think the others have similar stories, only Martin does actually feel most for the lyrics, and the whole mystical lyrical genre of heavy metal, which can best be described as post romanticism with modernistic influences, spiced up with a bit of Lovecraft mystique. We started playing and writing as we felt that we had something relevant to say on today's metal scene as musicians and writers.
(Eddie):Any new information for your fans or future fans?
