(RALF):The band was formed under the name Werwolf which caused some irritations because some people where reminded of the late/postwar Nazi organization. One day, thinking about that problem. (None of us wanted to be related to any group of the right spectre.)Bassman Jan Setzer watched his beercan (Warsteiner)and asked "what do you think about WARSTONE???"... It was no translation of the name but was a hint on our favoutite beer and offered tons of interpretations (The question for the beer has never been the first, when we where asked about the meaning of WARSTONE.) (EDDIE):Tell us a little history how the band formed???
(RALF):The core of the band formed sometime in the early 1980s, when in a small village near Kiel/Germany Peter Schwarzkopf, myself and my sister Anja Strunk decided to "make some music".We were mainly influenced by bands like Judas Priest, Saxon and Iron Maiden. After a while Ralf Steuer joined as the drummer. In 1994 we gave our live-debut with singer Rainer Ruhm, who left the band afterwards. Some "trial singers" later (none of them ever appeared on stage) the band decided to have me as singer along with my guitar playing. In 1985 me and Schwarzkopf had to join the army, the rehearsal-room was closed and Anja left the band. One year later a new bassman and rehearsal where found. For the next three years the band appeared on several Biker-Festivals when (again) the bassman got lost.Jan Setzer (then about 18) joined in 1990. He was the one who brought the progressive tendencies into the band. A stage-comeback in 1991 with a conceptional program worked very well and until the recordings for the '95-demo everything was fine. During the mixing process (which was everything but satisfying)Peter Schwarzkopf left the band.It lasted nearly three years to get back on our feet again when Mario Bruns a new guitar player was found. He only stayed for some new songs and an introductory gig for some friends at the rehearsal-room.We tried some new guitarists so far but none fitted and we're still searching. (EDDIE):How would you describe your music???
(RALF):Difficult... We're influenced by our favourites like Queensryche, Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Watchtower, but our line-up and our abilities differ from them a lot. It's progressive music, hard progressive music... to call it Metal it's not straight enough... many slow passages... in fact WARSTONE's music is a very special mix of it's influences (EDDIE):What Bands influenced you and your sound???
(RALF):As mentioned above our main influences are Queensryche, Dreamtheater, Fates Warning and Watchtower, but there are many other bands and artists we're listening to,like Led Zeppelin, Sting, Metallica, Alanis Morissette, Pearl Jam and many more... none of us has the same taste. (EDDIE):Where can we get a copy of your new cd from and cost???
(RALF):I can tell you when we're able to do some new recordings, which is impossible without a new guitar player. There's a compilation of some tracks recorded at the rehearsal-room of our demos, with a (for our taste) not acceptable quality. Nevertheless they're giving a little view of our style and maybe it's possible to get some (self burned and therefor very limited) on a selfcost base. We haven't decided about that release yet, but if anybody's interested in getting one, your free to E-mail us. (EDDIE):If we were to see you "LIVE" what can we expect to see???
(RALF):A powerful, pure show without pyros (see question #8 for a reason). Depending on the location the lightshow is supported by some videos... The rest is pure power. (EDDIE):Who produced your cd, and where was it produced???
(RALF):Every recording was a self production using different mobile recording facilities. During the last three years we bought some equipment on our own which lets us do our demo work in our own rehearsal studio. (EDDIE):What was your most memorable experience making the cd,or playing a show or both???
(RALF):There are some moments we'll never forget, from playing on a shaking trailer at a beach for dozens of bikers,To having the first backstage room with a filled refrigerator... realizing that one (ME) burned my hair with the pyro flames coming out of MY hands (that effect in two shows meant two haircuts ;-), well we're not Metallica, we stopped those pyros afterwards. One thing we'll never forget... the drummer losing every beat and rythm for nearly the whole show, because a red haired lady was shaking her (very impressive) Breasts in front of the stage. He had to choose between a blind fold or to hide behind his symbols. (EDDIE):What made you want to become a musician???
(RALF):What a question... Angus Young running around the stage? Rob Halford on his Harley? It surely has something to do with guys like these. We wanted to recreate the power they gave to us. To give a concrete form to your feelings... The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple... listening to your feelings, feel the music... Who knows what it finely was, but this comes close to it. (EDDIE):Any new information you would like to share with your fans???
(RALF):Sorry, there's nothing new to tell until a new guitar player is found.
