Favourite Heroine
Savithri, an all-time favourite heroine for any artiste in Tollywood and for that matter any Telugu people. She was not so tall, but had a curvaceous structure. There was nothing extraordinary as far as her curvilinear is concerned, but with her expressive eyes she used to mesmerise the audience. Whatever role she portrays, Savitri used to fit into it so naturally. The legend started her career as an artiste with an insignificant role in 1953 in Agni Pariksha. But with her immortal performance as Parvathi in Devadas, Savitri proved her talent and after that she never looked back. The one and only heroine acted with extraordinary performence and with out exposing. A reservoir of talents and a natural beauty, SAVITRI is an epitome of acting talents. She is remembered along with facial expression, and the volumes her eyes spoke. S.V. It is surprising to learn that such a great artist was rejected by the industry in the beginning. But, it’s true!Born in Guntur district in 1936. She learned dancing besides her cornet education. As she was interested in acting, she enacted took part in many dramas stage shows. The cine-field invited her talents. She started acting career with film Agni pariksha but she recognized as a heroine with the film Missamma.‘Samsaaram’ was her Second film in which she had the opportunity to work along with Akkineni Nageshwar Rao not as a heroine but as a vamp. The role demanded her to be dynamic as against her nature. As she could not meet the expectations of satisfy the producer-directors, she was given another small role. "You resemble Nageshwar Rao, completely truly" was her first dialogue, addressing ANR. Recognizing her acting talents, the great director K.V. Reddy gave her a romantic role in his film ‘Paatala Bhairavi’. That became was a turning point in her life. From then on, opportunities poured in and she never had to look back. "Missamma", ‘Gundammakatha’, ‘Rajamakutam’, ‘Vichitra Kutumbam’, ‘Rakta Sambhandham’, ‘Devatha’ with NTR and ‘Devadasu’, ‘Arthangi’, ‘Doctor Chakravarthi’, with ANR are a few milestones in her career. She made an impact even in Tamil films. The actress turned producer-director with films like ‘Matrudevata’. But, they made a dent to her financier. Her alliance with the Tamil hero Gemini Ganeshan was not successful. The miseries problems in her private life made her a habitual drinker. Addicted her to ‘drinks’, and snatched her away from us. Truly, we lost a legend, but her acting memories always haunt us. |
