Tony's Flying Machine
As you probably guessed, Tony is my husband. All his life he has had a love of planes. As a young man he used to hang around airports just to watch the planes come and go. His dream was to be a pilot and own his own plane. Only one of those dreams came true. He became a licensed pilot at age 40. We took lots of small trips, and one of them was coming up to the Pocono`s for lunch. We ended up buying the property up here~~~hence no plane. I`d like to tell you a funny story about one of his little jaunts. He would leave the house and call me from the airport, and say he`d be flyng over our home. So, of course he wanted me to run outdoors and wave to him him as he tilted his wings. One morning he called, and I was just going into the shower. Thought I`d wait for him to pass first. All I had on was my robe, well as I heard the plane engines, I ran out on the porch, and I don`t know what possessed me, but I opened my robe, and flashed him! He was so angry with me, he kept saying that it could have been someone else and suppose it was, etc. We still laugh about it. One we don`t laugh about is when his radio went out and he was lost, he was trying to find landmarks, and then suddenly saw the Statue of Liberty. He was so far off course, but managed to get his bearings and safely got back to the airport. He was flying in the path of jet planes, and he was in a Cherokee. All`s well that ends well! Thank God!
Tony entered the armed forces November 1st, 1949.He was in the 6th Armoured Calvery Regiment, Security Platoon. The photo below was taken in the early 1950`s. That is General Dwight D. Eisenhower to his right. Ike was on his way home to run for President. Tony was one one of his Honor Guards.
His other love, is his garden.
When I came back from England in 1988, I jokingly asked him to make me a beautiful garden like they have in England.
Well, one day he went out to the side of our house that faces my kitchen, where I have a large bow window. There he was digging, dragging rocks, and pulling weeds. That was the beginnng of my beautiful garden, stone paths and all. Today it`s fenced in after battling with the deer, Tony would plant and the deer would eat. There is a park bench and large cement urns, and little iron tables, umbrella table. It`s a wonderful haven in the summer.
Later he really got into it, and dug up the ground and put in a pond, with all the trimmings. Tony doesn`t fly anymore. In the summer you can always find him in his garden.

The property is large, so each year we have a huge 4th of July party.
~2000~
Jim is our youngest son. About twenty years ago, Jim started to have small 4th of July parties. The past fifeteen of these have turned into major events. Nothing less then a modern day Woodstock. The grounds are manicured for weeks, and most preparations begin in June. Everywhere you look there are flags. Fathers, mothers, children and their dogs, are all here. Everybody brings food, of course we supply a ton of it, too. We roast a pig, and no less then 10 kegs of beer, and plenty of birch beer on tap for the kids. We have a large in ground pool, and that`s where you`ll find most of the kids all day. There is music brought in, and a stage set up. The musicians grew up with Jim, all went to school together. They`ve become quite popular in our area. They`re called, "Willy And The Poor Boys". The evening ends with fireworks and "the Boys" play all patriotic songs. Everyone gathers around the stage and sings with them. It makes us give thought to what the 4th is really all about~~~~~freedom.
The love of Freedom and Family go together. I`d like to tell you a little about mine:
