Gotch, Brad
11 games, 25 goals (1985)
Brad Gotch was a fleet footed rover recruited from Fitzroy midway through the 1985 season. Aside from a few handy games as a goalsneak, Gotch failed to set the SANFL on fire, which subsequently left many pundits surprised when St Kilda recruited him at season's end.
Granger, David
103 games, 92 goals (1975-1978 & 1980-1982)
Originally recruited from the St Kilda colts, David Granger forged himself a career, and a reputation, as the Port Adelaide enforcer. Controversy dogged him throughout his career as his rough house tactics brought him before the SANFL tribunal on no less than six occasions.
Granger played nominally as a forward but was often sent into defence to harass opposition star forwards. Although, Granger has gained infamy (and the nickname "Grave Danger") for his bruising style of play, it should not be forgotten that he was also a strong mark and a reliable kick for goal. Additionally, opposition players often found themselves fearing Granger's footsteps instead of concentrating on the game, a situation Port's running brigade took full advantage of.
St Kilda lured him back in 1979 for an unsuccessful second stint at Moorabin but Granger returned to Alberton to cause more worry to the opposition.
Granger's career with Port Adelaide came to an end at the 1982 Preliminary Final against Glenelg. Granger came off the bench in the second quarter and immediately flattened Glenelg player Graham Cornes before further altercations with a number of other Glenelg players. The final siren saw him escorted off the ground by police and with enough reports to suspend him until the middle of 1983. As a result, Granger thought it prudent to sever links with the SANFL.
After retiring from the Magpies, Granger moved to Port Pirie to play for Solomontown. Not surprisingly, there was a record Port Pirie crowd in attendance for his first game.
