Tragic Loss
Chapter 2

Erica slowly made her way out of the car. She stood up shakily and realized what they hit. "Oh no," Erica said softly. She walked over to what she realized was a car and checked to see if there was anyone inside it. Steph closely followed. Erica opened up the car door and Steph cried out. "Oh my God...this can't be happening!" Erica said as tears started to fall. Hunched over the steering wheel was a guy. His limp body was bashed and bruised and very well dead. No way could he survive the impact. Thinking over their options; which were very limited; got them no where. No matter what they thought of nothing would work. "Our only option is..." Erica started. "We either call the police or dump the body," Steph said. Erica stared blankly at the man in the car. "Well, I'm sure his family would be worried...." Erica replied softly. "All right, I'll go get my cell phone." Steph nodded. Just as Steph turned around she noticed car headlights. "Crap..we gotta do something!" Erica said frantically as she noticed the lights too. Steph sighed and the two girls quickly walked over to the body. They carried him out of the car and laid him behind a large tree and made it back to their car before the passing car saw them. Forgetting about the man, they quickly sped back to their dorm room. Erica and Steph bolted out of the car and sprinted up the stairs. Erica shakily unlocked the door only to find Brian and AJ waiting impatiently in their living room. "You two ok? You look like you've seen a ghost?" AJ asked concernedly. "Yeah, I'm just tired is all" Steph replied quickly. "Erica?" Brian asked. Erica looked up with blood shot eyes and a tear stained face. "I'm fine." Erica softly replied. Brian nodded and dropped the subject. ***The Next Day*** Erica woke up with a start. She had a nightmare about the night before. "Oh my God.." Steph stirred in her sleep and mumbled, "What?" "We just left him there..." Erica cried. "What?" "That guy that we hit! We just left him behind the tree!" Steph stared blankly and fell back asleep. Erica got dressed quickly and finally Steph woke up as well. "Where are you going?" Steph asked. "To see if he's still there," Erica grabbed her keys to her Dodge Durango. As she was getting into her car Steph opened the passenger side door. "I'm coming with you," She said sternly. Before Steph could shut her door, Erica already started to drive away. They got to the spot where they hit him. The car was gone. "It probably got towed. After all, it WAS in the middle of the road." Steph said. They heard two car doors open. "We saw you guys speed away, everything all right?" Brian asked has he wrapped his arms around Erica. Erica looked into his deep blue eyes and shook her head no. Steph was walking towards the tree with AJ following closely behind. "Erica?" Steph cried out nervously. "What?" Erica said turning her attention back to what they came out there for. "He's not here."
