CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2 The following morning Jade was the first one to get up, and had a horrible headache. She slowly and quickly climbed out of bed and headed downstairs to see if she could find Miss Thomas for some asprin. When she couldn't find her on the first floor, she headed downstairs, but she ran into a guy about her age.
"Sorry," she replied as she looked up to see him. Her first impression was that he was really good looking. He was slightly taller then her and didn't have any hair that she could see.
"It's okay. You're one of the new girls, right?"
"Yeah," she answered as she went to go by him and downstairs.
"You got a name?"
"Jade Stone. You?"
"Hunter Michealson."
Jade smiled and nodded just slightly, so she didn't upset her headache. "Is Miss Thomas up yet?"
"Yeah, she's downstairs. Why?"
"I really need some pain reliever. I have one of the worst headaches."
"I'll get you some. Hold on." Hunter turned to head to his room, but Jade stopped him.
"You don't have to. I'll just ask Miss Thomas."
"Don't bother her." Hunter walked into his room and over to his dresser. He pulled out the bottle and removed two then went back into the hall. He smiled as he handed them over to Jade.
"You might not want to take it with pot. It doesn't go too well," he informed her.
"How did you....?" She questioned as she stared at him blankly.
"I saw you with Crystal. She's nothing but trouble. She doesn't just smoke. She has gotten into trouble for stealing, she has been in and out of homes, she's been in gangs, and whatever sob story she told is nothing but a lie. Her parents never wanted her. They left her on the street somewhere."
Jade blinked her eyes when she noticed she'd been staring for a while without blinking.
"Why are you and your brothers here?"
"Our parents died in a plane accident. How did you know I had brothers?"
"Crystal told me. She also told me your parents didn't want you and your brothers and that you guys tried to run away a few times."
"That's true about us trying to run away. We don't want to get split up. Like, I'm sure that you and your sisters don't want to get split up."
"We don't. Especially with what's wrong with Harmoni," Jade sighed. She wanted to cry, but she didn't. Everything was jumbled in her head and she did not know what she wanted to do.
"What's wrong with her? If you don't mind me asking."
"She hasn't talked since the accident."
"That's got to suck."
Just then Crystal came out of her room. "Jade, why are you talking to this scum?"
"He's not scum. He's really nice."
"I've lived here longer than you. I know what he's like. He's nothing but a liar." Crystal walked by Jade and slipped a few joints in her hand. "Well, whatever. I'm going to get breakfast. Catch you later." Crystal went downstairs.
"Thanks," Hunter told Jade.
Jade smiled. "No problem." Jade went to go downstairs, but Hunter grabbed her arm.
"Hand them over." He extended his hand palm up.
"What? I don't know what you're talking about. Anyway, what's it any business of yours?" Jade smiled and walked downstairs.
"Cause I know what it can do," he sighed before walking downstairs.
Miss Thomas was making pancakes when Jade walked in. Several little kids were already chowing down on a plate full of pancakes. Crystal was one of them, so Jade sat down next to her. "How can you eat that?" Jade asked her.
"Don't you like pancakes?"
"It's not that. I'm still messed from last night."
Crystal laughed. "Oh, that was your first time. Of course, you're still a little messed up. I'm just surprised you don't have the munchies."
"I did last night," she informed her as she looked across the table to Hunter who was sitting down. He could hear what Jade and Crystal were talking about, and he did not like it. He may not have known Jade, but he was worried. He knew the effects marijuana had on a person and their family members.
Jewel walked downstairs and looked at Jade. When she saw who she was sitting next to she knew that she was not about to give up her new habits anytime soon. So instead of sitting with her sister, she sat down next to Carmen. "How are you?"
"Good. How was your night?"
"Not too good. I'm kind of mad at my sister." Jewel casually looked up at her sister and sighed. Jade noticed, but she just looked the other way.
"What did she do?"
"Something really bad. Maybe I'll tell you later."
Carmen nodded, and he thought he really knew what was going on. Miss Thomas was sure to talk to all of the kids about Crystal.
Zoey and Harmoni both hobbled downstairs at the same time and sat with Jewel, away from Jade. Behind Zoey and Harmoni were three guys that sat next to Hunter and across from Jade.
Jade did not want to put up with the upsetting looks from her sisters anymore, so she walked into the living room to watch some TV. Jewel watched as her sister walked away. Then she turned her attention to her other sisters. "I can't believe her. What does she think she's doing?"
"I don't know," Zoey replied, shaking her head.
Crystal got up and walked outside. "And, it's all her fault," Zoey said after she left.
"Watch your sister," one of Hunter's brothers told Zoey.
"And, who are you?"
"I'm Levi."
"I'm Zoey. What about the other three? And what gives you premission to tell me what to do about my sister?"
"That's Arin," he said as he pointed to the one with long brown hair. "That's Dade," he said as he pointed to one with short brown hair. "And, that's Hunter," he said as he pointed to the one with a hat on. "Your sisters got names? And, let's just say we've been there, done that, don't want to do it again. Just thought I could help you," he informed her as he gave Hunter a sideways glance.
"Yeah, I'm Jewel and that's Harmoni," Jewel answered.
"What about the one that just left?"
"Her name is Jade," Hunter answered.
"I take it you talked to her?" Zoey asked.
"Yeah. I tried to talk some sense into her about Crystal, too, but it didn't work."
"I could have told you it wouldn't. She's always been a stubborn pain in the butt."
Harmoni got up and went upstairs without eating anything. "Great. Now Harmoni's not going to eat, either." Zoey rolled her eyes and sat back in her seat.
"What's wrong with her?" Dade asked.
"Ever since our mom and dad died, she hasn't said a word. She saw them die. She was right next to them. I mean, we were all in the car. We all have our bruises, but hers are the worst."
"Oh my gosh! I'm glad that I wasn't there when the plane crashed. I think I would be just like her. And, to think I was supposed to be on that plane with them, too." Dade looked at the girls then looked at the table.

Jade sat in the living room all by herself. She would look out the window, then she would look at the pot in her hand. She was really tempted to light up right there when a little kid walked in. She folded up her hand and smiled at the kid. He smiled back and walked into the kitchen.
Jade walked upstairs to the third floor and into her room. Harmoni looked up at her and quickly, grabbed a peice of paper, and wrote: Why are you doing it?
"Why are you not talking to anyone? It's the same reason. I'm taking my hurt out the only way I can."
I don't think you should do it that way.
"I don't think you should stop talking all together." Harmoni shrugged and looked back at her laptop. "What are you writing anyway?"
Story about our life.
"Oh, I guess that's another way for you to take out your hurt."
Harmoni nodded. Better than the way you are.
"Okay, so it is. So what? Tell me a better way, and I won't do it anymore. I'm going to go for a walk."
Harmoni nodded. Jade got up and walked downstairs and out the front door. As she was walking down the street, she finally lit up. A few kids her age walked by and looked at her. She knew she would have to see them in school. If she was here long enough, that is. She really hoped she was not going to be. She did not like that town one bit. At that moment she did not have any friends. Crystal was only her supplier, and she did not know Hunter well enough. Not to mention, Hunter wanted her to stop. She did not want to stop. It calmed her nerves so much.
Jade took in a long drag and smiled as she closed her eyes. At the end of the street she saw a bunch of gang members standing around. They were puffing on a shared joint and they were all watching Jade as she walked by. "Hey, girlie. Where did you get that?"
"Why do you want to know? You got your own crap."
"'Cause. Little girls like you shouldn't be smoking it."
"I'm not a little girl. I'm bigger than you think."
"Oh, and she's a toughy." Jade smiled and started to walk on. The leader grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "You ain't going anywhere."
"What do you want?"
"I want you."
Jade tried to get her arm free, but he just tightened his hold. Not to mention that, but Jade still was not used to how her body would act when she was high. All the guys that were there were starting to laugh at her expense. Jade, on the other hand, started to shake. As much as she tried not to, she could not help it. She was scared about what was going to happen.
"Are you scared? Oh, the little girl wants her mommy. Somebody go get her mommy. Oh wait. You better not. Her mommy doesn't know that she's high." The guys continued to laugh.
"Assholes. I don't have a mom. She died!"
"Aw, poor baby doesn't have a mom. Let's have a pity party for her." The guy tightened his grip on her arm. Jade could feel his nails digging into her skin.
"Let me go!" She demanded in pain.
"No. See, you came to the wrong part of town. You don't do that. I guess you have to learn the hard way." The guy pulled her to the woods with the others following closely behind. Once they were pretty far back into the woods, they all took their turns beating on Jade. When they thought that she had learned her lesson, they all left. All but one. He was pretty much a nobody in the group. He was pretty much there. He figured now was his best shot. While the other guys had taken her money and pot he decided to have his way with her. Since Jade was unconsious, she had no idea what was being done to her. When he was good and done, he put her back the way she was, clothing and everything.

After Jewel and Zoey were done with their breakfast, they went out to the living room to watch TV. Of course, the kids had already had control of the TV, so they were not really watching TV. They were just sitting there, talking and half watching whatever was on. "Is your sister smoking dope?" Carmen asked Jewel and Zoey.
"How do you know about that stuff?" Jewel questioned.
"Miss Thomas told us not to take anything offered by Crystal. Your sister is taking what Crystal is."
"Yeah. Unfortunately she is."
"Bad girl."
Miss Thomas walked into the living room and looked at Jewel and Zoey. "Has anyone seen Jade?" she asked everyone.
The little boy that had smiled at her before breakfast turned away from the tv. "I saw her leave the house."
"Great. Just great. Jewel, Zoey, will you go look for her, but don't go alone. This isn't one of the safest towns. I'll go ask the Michealson boys to go with you. Hold on."
Miss Thomas turned from the girls and headed upstairs to see what the boys were up to. "Oh, I feel safe now. Knowing this town isn't the safest," Jewel commented. "For all we know, she could be dead right now or worse."
The four boys walked downstairs with Harmoni behind them. Once they were downstairs, Zoey and Jewel stood up and they all headed out the front door. "Was your sister like this before your parents died?" Levi asked.
"Which one?" Zoey asked.
"Jade. Did she always act like this?"
"No. She wouldn't do anything this stupid. She didn't want to ruin her football, soccer, or basketball careers. She was totally against any of this. Unless she was putting on an act the whole time," Zoey told him, looking around.
Harmoni looked down the street and noticed the gang standing at the end, laughing. She hit Zoey on the shoulder. "What, Harmoni?" Harmoni pointed to the gang.
"You don't want to mess with them. I found out the hard way when I got here," Hunter told them as he remembered the torture they had put him through.
"Then I bet you Jade learned the hard way," Jewel stated, almost in tears.
Hunter sighed. "I bet you she did." Hunter looked up at the gang of guys. They looked at him and smiled.
"Hey, I remember you! Didn't we teach you the first time not to come near our turf?"
"I guess not. Not when you mess with my friend."
"Who might that be and don't tell me that little pot smoking hoe 'cause we beat her ass down, and boy was that fun. I ain't had bitch that good." Hunter stared at the ring leader and without thinking headed toward him.
As Hunter approached, the other guy came back from the woods. "You're right. She is the best bitch I ever had," he replied in smiles as he looked from Hunter to Jade's sisters and Hunter's brothers.
"Oh, Hunter looks mad. She's the one you were talking about? She's your bitch?" the new member questioned.
Hunter was already standing in front of Chris, the leader, but turned to the other guy. "What?!?"
He just smiled. "I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, little man."
Hunter could feel his face getting red with anger as he headed to the other guy. "Oh. Okay. I think I get it." Without another thought, Hunter balled up his fists and socked the guy in the face then started punching and kicking him. Of course, the other gang members really did not care. They just loved the fact that there was a fight going on.
Levi walked over to Hunter and pulled him off of the guy.
"Hunter! Hunter, we gotta find Jade. I'm sure you know about where she's at."
"Yeah," Hunter sighed as he headed out towards the woods with everyone else following him at a good distance.
