That's What Friends Are For

November 2004 Challenge: Write a story with the title “That’s What Friends Are For”

When darkness falls upon you,
Nameless fears,
Hidden tears;
He’ll be there to see you through.

When you grieve and lose your faith;
Hard you try,
Not to cry;
He will gently touch your face.

When you want to reach the sky,
Want to sail
Far away,
He will make you wings to fly.

When you feel you won’t survive;
Pointless fight,
Fading light;
He will keep the hope alive.

When the pain you feel is raw,
Heart is sore,
Needing more,
He will hold you, won’t let go.

When you don’t know who to call;
Silent world,
Screaming hurt
His smile guards you through it all.

When your lost soul strays away;
Sightless eyes,
Errant cries;
He will lead you on the way.

He’ll be with you till the end;
You grow old,
Feel so cold;
He will hold your wrinkled hand.

Do not fear the unbeknown;
When you leave;
Just believe,
He won’t let you go alone.
