Last Promise---A X/1999 Poem

Alone against the Earth...
One Solitary Warrior stands.
Swirling, intoxicating blossoms pirouette across my vision,
Filling the horizon with their sweet fragrance..
Or is it the putrid scent of death?
Devotion, protection, and innocence, all lost...
In the heartbeat of a single dream.
Was it an angel's voice that called to me?
Or a twin devil that stole my reflection from the mirror?
A silent melody is playing through my mind...
It speaks of a Forever Love..
Words sung without a single sound.
Warnings never heeded,
Destiny foreordained forever.
Never waking from this nightmare that plagues me,
Is driving me insane.
I watched, helplessly as they gave their lives,
Those ill fated Dragons..
One by one until fate was satisfied.
Far away, dimly noticeable...
The sun now sets on the horizon...
Slinking down past the mountains as I lie here with you..
Can you see the stars in the distant sky?
They seem so close now.
Once they were glimmering rays of hope,
When we chose our own destinies...
Now they are pin holes in the sky, letting in the light...
And showing the way to our own destruction
The Heavens are nothing but illusions,
Guiding us down the narrow path,
It seems unending.
A Hollow Earth now lies below us, many stories down...
Ruined by man's selfish fantasies and desires.
She was beauty that was brighter than a diamond
That angel that I loved so...
Never knowing what really happened.
A moment of pain and unconscious fears and she was gone.
Left torn and shattered...
Like a broken China doll.
I held her in my arms just like this.
Virtue and life, gone in one heartbeat.
Her shining, silver soul still remains...
Broken and cleaved in two, gleaming on the floor,
It ended quickly.
Then I heard quiet whisper on the wind,
Unselfishly, I knew what had to be done.
My tears burnt in my eyes,
And forced me to see the truth.
A bitter memory is now plaguing my mind,
Happier days filled with laughing and cheer.
When we smiled so brightly,
Sunlight in our eyes,
Wind at our backs,
Nothing could tear up apart.
A soft snow falls upon us now...
Covering all with it's white purity,
Hiding the crimson stains under it's blanket.
All the spring time blossoms are gone Kotori...
Along with the color from your cheeks.
Did I break that pledge that bound us together Fuma?
Or did I hold on a little to tightly to my own dreams?
I'll kiss you once again...
Upon those eternally closed eyes.
And wish for your rest..
It's time to say goodbye.
Sealed together forever in death,
The Earth still lives on.
The night claims me once again...
Disappearing into the twilight that bore me.
Once last tear for you both,
As the sun vanishes from the heavens.
My memories shall comfort me,
Sacred solitude once again.
Farewell my friends...
I never forgot my promise.
