Life in the Martial Arts

I've been in the Martial Arts for about 4 years. I'm in 6th degree purple belt. My sensei's name is Jack. He's been in the Martial Arts for about 24 years now. He's learned Kenpo & Shudokan. He's a 3 degree black belt. We do pressure point knock outs and attacks. My brother Brian (Orange Belt)and my sensei assistant Rich (Brown Belt)is in it too.

Martial Arts influenced me in a big way. It’s a good place to get out grief and a good place to study. Besides learning how to fight you also learn self-control, philosophy, psychology, sociology and discipline.

In self-control you must be controlled physically and mentally. With self-control your power, speed and your accuracy will improve on where you hit. To do this you must be first have mental control.

A good thing to know is philosophy, philosophy of life and philosophy of fighting. It can lead to new ideas and thoughts. It can also improve your life in every area.

Psychology is important because you must know what your opponent is thinking. When knowing this you can see the strong and weak spots of him. It’s also good to get your self out of a fight. Anger is the biggest weakness an opponent has. Although they think that it’s not, it really is. A lot of people feel insecure about themselves, so they must put on an act of power. What most of them are really trying to do is trying not to get into a fight by projecting fear into other people’s hearts.

To be a Martial Artist consists of lots of discipline and time, to work out every day, meditate, and study. You have to learn how to except criticism and learn from your mistakes. Sloppiness and laziness are not acceptable. You must be strong and learn how to take whatever is coming at you.

Martial Arts are more than just learning how to fight. It’s also about all of the important essentials of life.
