The view of the beach
at low tide from Rhosselli-- a village of about two people, a visitors' center/quickie
mart/hotel, and 100+ sheep.
Looking back at the
Worm's Head. The tide is coming in and cutting off the peninsula from the
mainland.
From the other side,
after hiking back from the point.
A beautiful but very
ominous picture: an hour later, putting out this very same fire, Ophelia
burned a hole the size of a coaster in the top of her foot (moral: don't
cover the ashes with sand until they are absolutely cold). She assured
me that if she just kept moving it would be fine, so I went back to scrubbing
the dishes. Five minutes later I returned to an empty camp site on the
beach and Ophelia at the top of a 20 ft cliff behind us, with the tent
already pitched! Not to be outdone, I shouldered my pack and started up
the steep grassy slope. Yes GRASSY. After an agonizing hour (ok few
minutes) clutching the slippery grass and trying to control my full 5500
cu in pack (it looked so small in the store...) I finally rolled myself
over the top onto... a stinging nettle.
Note:Elephant ears rubbed on the skin will remove stinging nettles.
Also note:I learned this three weeks too late.
Despite it all we had
a pretty damn good time.
