Here is a video of a burnout in the parking lot. Sometimes, this actually downloads correctly.

Here are two timeslips from 6/30/00. I finally broke into the 12's, barely, but, it still felt good. I thought I'd include a second timeslip with my best MPH of the night since there was almost a two MPH difference between the two.
6/30/00 Update: I met up with the NJ DSM Club at Island Dragway. It was a good feeling not being the only DSM (Turbocharged 90-99 Eclipse, Talon, or Laser) in the place.
Some mods to the car in order of purchase/installation. I also noted the 1/4 mile time and mph with each group of mods
stock performance, and getting used to my new, used car: 7/30/99 15.974 @ 88.96 mph, 60' - 2.53. Front wheel drive is tough at the track. That's no excuse. Call me Grandma. Stock boost, 93 octane.
--
front strut tower brace, and lowered the tire pressure to 25 and 22 psi
8/27/99 15.601 @ 89.12 mph, 60' - 2.35. Still getting severe wheelhop. I'm shocked something didn't break. Stock boost, 93 octane.

Extreme air filter
pillar mount: boost, and air fuel gauges
sampled boost from manifold instead of turbo compressor housing. Removed restrictor from boost controller. (note: my boost gauge is not "zeroed" very good. The needle sit near 1" of vacuum with the engine off. I never compared it to a calibrated gauge to see exactly what pressure I am REALLY reading).
lowered the air in the tires to 21 and 18 psi - no more wheelhop, except when 1st gear finally starts to bite! Too bad I can't drive on the street with the tire pressures this low up front.
9/24/99 14.934 @ 94.23 mph, 60' - 2.32. 11 psi of boost at intake manifold, 93 octane.

modified Extreme UIC pipe and 1G BOV crushed to open at 18" of hg
Hallman MBC
Apexi S-AFC blue face
2 1/2" intake made by me
Street tires at 20 and 18 psi.
11/6/99 14.359 @ 97.62 mph, 60' - 2.20. T-25 spiking 19 psi of boost, and dropping off rapidly, 93 octane with a 2 gals of 100 octane mixed in.

Winter sets in and I get bored. Time for the fun stuff!

Walbro 255 fuel pump and wire mod
Used: Small 16G ported by me
I also ported the O2 housing, and exhaust manifold
Used: Spearco 221 FMIC
Thermal 3" turbo back exhaust, and 3" cat
Nick, Ed, and myself, made the expanded aluminum screen up front to protect the FMIC from large rocks and stuff. We also made two pieces to cover the right and left openings.
RC 550 injectors
Quaife LSD installed by me
CFDF 2500
Used: Centerline rims and M&H Racemaster slicks
5/6/00 13.322 @ 105.65 mph, 60' - 1.98 - getting closer to breaking into the 12's. Now, if I could drive a little better... 20-21 psi of boost 1/4 tank 93 octane, and 5 gals of 114 octane.
6/30/00 12.996 @ 106.9 mph, 60' - 1.98 - I did two things different. I turned the boost up to 23 - 24 psi, and got rid of that short shifter. I have better leverage with the long stock shift lever, and can shift right through the synchro instead of waiting for it to grab the next gear. No big chuncks of metal in the tranny oil when I changed it the next day, so I guess nothing got too beat up inside of the tranny. 1/4 tank of 93, and 5 gals of 116 octane.
7/21/00 12.855 @109.22 mph, 60' - 1.89 - DSM Shootout at Norwalk Oh. No changes to the car from 6/30/00. Why the change in 60'? The track was sticky compared to Island and this time I heated the slicks until smoke was rolling (instead of just "cleaning" them). Also I waited to roll out of the water a few tire rotations before doing the burnout. I think water was getting the inner fender wells wet, then dripping water onto the slicks when I was at the line waiting for the lights. I had great side by side racing with another DSM'er. 22-23 psi of boost, emptied the tank and until low fuel light came on, and added 5 gals of 112 octane. Leaned the S-AFC 2% across the board on the "HI" setting.
In case you have no clue what some of those turbocharging acronyms mean, or drive a big block, here is a little help.
- 1G BOV - 1st generation Mitsubushi blow off valve, as opposed to the 2G blow off valve that leaks at 10 " hg. The BOV keeps boosted pressure from returning back to the turbo, reverse flow, when the throttle plate closes. The pressure needs somewhere to go, and the BOV redirects the pressure back into the turbo inlet, helping to keep the turbo spinning between shifts.
- FMIC- front mount intercooler. The front mount intercooler mounts in front of the car, as opposed to a side mount intercooler, and cools the intake compressed air. The turbo heats the air as it compresses it. Hot intake air is bad for power.
- UIC pipe - Upper intercooler pipe. The UIC pipe connects the intercooler output side to the inlet of the intake. The stock one is very restrictive, and is flanged for the leaky 2G BOV.
- 18" of hg - 18 inches of mercury. This is how much intake vacuum it takes to open my modified 1G BOV.
- Apexi AFC - This is my air flow controller. It allows me to adjust my air fuel ratio through the entire rpm range, and at high and low throttle through the same rpm ranges. Kind of like changing jets for you carburator guys, except, I can do this while driving, and make changes in seconds, then fine tune until the air fuel ratio is correct for that given day, elevation, boost level, fuel type, etc.
- MBC - manual boost controller. This allows me to adjust the boost manually. I mounted mine inside of the car, so I can increase the boost while driving if necessary:)
- 16G - This is my turbo size. It flows about 505 cfm. The stock turbo was a T-25, which only flowed about 265 cfm. You can see why that had to go.
- O2 housing - This is in the exhaust. It is a restrictive piece where the O2 sensor is located. The exhaust flows through the exhaust manifold, then, into the exhaust housing of the turbo - spinning the turbo, through the O2 housing - the engine microprocessor can see the richness of the air fuel ratio now, then into the downpipe and out of the rest of the exhaust.
- LSD - limited slip differential - traction aid.
- CFDF - Center Force Dual Friction.
About the mods
- I bought this car, and wanted to see what kind of information I could get off of the internet. I only did and bought things learned, from the internet just to make it exciting. I did mostly everything myself, or with help of friends. I don't want to see how well someone else can build my car for me, so, you won't find any "professional" work done here. There is a lot more that could be done, but, I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money. That's about it for the car.
