A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Hi My
name Is Frank Bonner. I've been drawing and painting things since I
could hold
a pencil.. or shall I say anything that would leave
a mark!
Born
and raised In
Scranton PA, I quickly realized I had a special talent that most of
the other kids didn't have or didn't care to explore even If they
were
talented. sad to say
I was quite the square peg growing up. wasn't a Jock.. wasn't a
brainiac
. and I most
certainly wasn't popular. But don't cry for me. this
only
served to make me
focus my drawing further.. because It was my own special
power.
back then I never realized
just how powerful It would become!
I continued
meandering
through life graduated and went Into the army. even there I
found a use for my talents. like painting the ground to air
missile
outside the barracks
. or drawing up plans (realistic looking ones might I add) for a
ground Invasion
exercise In Panama. I also found some guys wanted me to paint
murals on
the backs of
their denim vests. It waste the military where I discovered
Heavy Metal
magazine.. no
not a guitar mag.. a cartoon Illustrated fantasy
mag.. It
really Inspired me to start
painting women In leather and Irons . Back then used a crude
system
of chalk oil
paints clear lacquer and a match . but IT did the job.
It wasn't until I was In
the hospital
In Panama where I grew Intensely bored.. (Its
amazing how sharp you can get when your bored silly).
Well anyhow I was using whatever the front desk had In supply
pencils
markers .. white
out
yep even shoe polish.
After exiting the
military I
found a unique way of making me stand out.. You guessed It.
I would paint on my clothes.. Oh yeah I never said I wasn't
eccentric.
maybe a bit strange. But that's the way you get when you make up
the game
along with
your own rules.. you cant be compared to other peoples ways so
you tend
to stand out..
I learned to make this work for me.
Besides.. a great man once said..
You will NEVER
become famous
for being doing what everyone else s doing
I was
soon
married.. and spent the first years of my marriage painting portraits
of
peoples homes for extra cash. this was when I was In- between
jobs of
course.. ranging
from a produce lumper to a quarryman to a meat
cutter In a
slaughterhouse . I also
worked a number of other places but those 3 stand out the most.
While working In the slaughterhouses when I discovered airbrushing. I
got my
very first
airbrush from my wife. .. Would you believe I used It for
10
minutes and broke It?? lol
yeah I tried to unscrew It to clean It at a part that wasn't
supposed to
twist.. 120 bucks
down the tubes.. wasn't till months later I got my
next air
pen then airbrush.. a real
cheaply made brush But the best kind I could have
considering I knew nothing about
the art . I had 5 good years to practice with air .. Painting
T-shirts
for folks at work for
side cash. gradually It evolved Into actual paintings. and
bigger
n better airbrushes .
using the airbrush as an added effect. like perspective and
softening. I
grew Interested
In submitting my work Into one of those plate
galleries.. I
soon found
I would have hit the
lottery quicker than getting my work noticed from there.
basically
because they are
looking for Artists with awards and college degrees. Being
realistic and realizing I was
probably one of 5 million other artist sin the same boat.
.I
decided to move on and just
stick with
custom work on cars canvas and leather..etc..(FOR NOW)
I've always tried to make the best of the cards I've been dealt.. (its
the main
reason
Im so good today).
I look at It as a way to sharpen my stuff even
further while
other artists might be
Limited to Illustrating a select group of things.. my profession
made me
have to explore
ALL things.. custom work Is always different.
everyone
has that need to say.. this
shows the world who I am.. weather Im an eagle person who
has one
on the bike.. or
maybe Im Into murals sponged on my walls. everyone Is different
and Its
their drive to
stand out that keeps me In demand
I basically do everything In order to grow.
Always In my
work I believed in what I consider a minimum standard of
excellence.
So many other artist would merely create work directly
proportional to
the
amount the client Is willing to Invest. I think differently.
If a perspective client Isn't willing to Invest the funds needed to
commission
a work properly and with due respect and
appreciation to the art I can
create,
I simply will not create art for that person.
Thanks for reading and may your life shine on you like It has mine
