It's Been a Funny Day...

2/22/01

First of all, today is my older brother's birthday... he's 18! AUGH! Secondly, most of my friends are in band, and the school band went on a field trip today. Oh yeah, and in 4th period, the principal got on the PA system to tell us that the superintendent had decided that we would get out early at 1:00. We looked outside, and there wasn't a flake in the sky. Five minutes later, we went out into the hall between classes, and the snow was blowing sideways past the doors. We also had to stand out in the snow for half an hour to wait for the buses, and my toes still aren't dry yet.

I had fun with my notebook today. What's so great about a notebook? Well, at church camp this past summer, I took a notebook and started writing in it- parts of my stories, doodles, whatever thoughts came into my head, quotes, poems, jokes, etc. I'm on my third notebook now. ANYWAY...

The thing I had fun writing was a poem.

"Nothing"

There was nothing on the road that night.
The lights were shining through silver lining,
The asphalt gleaming and my soul screaming.
A dread of nothing held me tight.

There was nothing in the sky that night.
My feet were speeding, I was bleeding,
My knees were weak and heart was meek
And I had no strength left to fight.

There was nothing in my heart that night.
The world was deaf, my mind had left,
The earth was blind, the road was lined
In gleaming, deathly white.

There was fear in the night.
A fear of myself and nothing else,
Of emptiness and eternal rest,
And that the morning would never alight.

A single dove flies through this scene-
Turns into a crow and I start to scream.

I wrote most of that in homeroom. My day wasn't going too well this morning, as you can tell. :)
