CUB SCOUT PACK #37 REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE CHESS ACADEMICS BELT LOOP/PIN/LETTER
- Complete these three requirements for Belt Loop (Year One):

- Identify the chess pieces and set up a chess board for play.
- ____
- Demonstrate the moves of each chess piece to your den leader or adult partner.
- ____
- Play a game of chess.
- Earn the Art Belt Loop and complete five of the following requirements for the Pin (Year Two):

- Demonstrate basic opening principles (such as development of
pieces, control center, castle, don't bring queen out too early,
don't move same piece twice).
- ____
- Visit a chess tournament and tell your den about it.
- ____
- Participate in a pack, school, or community chess tournament.
- ____
- Solve a pre-specified chess problem (e.g., "White to move and
mate in three") given to you by your adult partner.
- ____
- Play five games of chess.
- ____
- Play 10 chess games via computer or on the Internet.
- ____
- Read about a famous chess player.
- ____
- Describe U.S. Chess Federation ratings for chess players.
- ____
- Learn to write chess notation and record a game with another Scout.
- ____
- Present a report about the history of chess to your den or family.
- Earn the Chess Belt Loop and Chess Pin and complete remaining requirements above to earn the Chess Letter (Year Three).
To help with Den/Patrol organization: Print out this page, check off requirement as completed, and turn in to Leader when all requirements for Belt Loop, Pin, or Letter are completed.
