CUB SCOUT PACK #37 REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE WEATHER ACADEMICS BELT LOOP/PIN/LETTER
- Complete these three requirements for Belt Loop (Year One):

- Make a poster that shows and explains the water cycle.

- Set up a simple weather station to record rainfall, temperature,
air pressure, or evaporation for one week.
- ____
- Watch the weather forecast on a local television station.
- Earn the Weather Belt Loop and complete five of the following requirements for the Weather Pin (Year Two):

- Define the following terms: weather, humidity, precipitation,
temperature, and wind.
- ____
- Explain how clouds are made. Describe the different kinds of
clouds-stratus, cumulus, cumulonimbus, and cirrus-and what
kind of weather can be associated with these cloud types.
- ____
- Describe the climate in your state. Compare its climate with
that in another state.
- ____
- Describe a potentially dangerous weather condition in your
community. Discuss safety precautions and procedures for
dealing with this condition.
- ____
- Define what is meant by acid rain. Explain the greenhouse
effect.
- ____
- Talk to a meteorologist about his or her job. Learn about
careers in meteorology.
- ____
- Make a weather map of your state or country using several
weather symbols.
- ____
- Explain the differences between tornadoes and hurricanes.
- ____
- Make a simple weather vane. Make a list of other weather
instruments and describe what they do.
- ____
- Explain how weather can affect agriculture and the growing of
food.
- ____
- Make a report to your Den/Patrol or family on a book about weather.
- ____
- Explain how rainbows are formed and then draw and color a
rainbow.
- Earn the Weather Belt Loop and Weather Pin and complete remaining requirements above to earn the Weather Letter (Year Three).
To help with Den/Patrol organization: Print out this page, check off requirement as completed, and turn in to Leader when all requirements for Belt Loop, Pin, or Letter are completed.

- Weather or Not - Try to predict the weather!
- World Temperature Extremes - Find out what the highest and lowest
documented temperatures were in different countries and each of the
United States.
