BUGS,BUGS,BUGS
I have to agree with most of you mom's. Bugs aren't the greatest. But if your kids are going to bring them into
your house anyway, wouldn't you rather it be in a situation that you are in control of (and are aware of before you find
the container of worms in the fridge.)? This theme will more than likely be used mainly for boys, however, I know plenty of girls
who like bugs just as much if not more than boys!
Menu Ideas
This theme can actually be a little fun to work with as far as the food goes.
- One of my favorites is to get
clear plastic cups. Make chocolate pudding and fill the cups halfway up. Then you can stick one of those
yummy gummy worms in the pudding. Lift the worm just a little so this next step doesn't bury the worm. Fill the rest of the cup
up with any kind of chocolate cookie crushed up. (Oreo type without the filling). They have worms in a cup!
- You can also use this idea with the cake.
Make a chocolate cake, with chocolate icing, crush the oreos for the dirt and then put plastic bugs and gummy worms on top for the decoration.
- You can also make some green pudding that resembles "goo" or the insides of bugs. Maybe use some of the bugs mentioned below
to lay in the bowl of pudding.
- You can make the ice cubes in trays. Stick some small plastic spiders and other bugs in the trays before they
freeze. When they melt they will have bugs in their drinks and bugs in the ice before they melt!
Decorations
- This would be a great time to use some of those "bugs" that come in the gumball machine that the kids always get. Just lay them around the house in
strategic places or just all over.
- Maybe have some floating in the punch bowl (after cleaning them of course).
- Spider webs with spiders in them in corners
are a nice touch (like the ones you get at Halloween time).
- There aren't a whole lot of bug decorations that I have found. To fix this problem you and your child can either create bug decorations yourself prior to the party,
or you can get bug stamps to decorate plates, napkins, streamers, etc. You can find lots of bug stamps.
Games
- Have the kids make butterflies. You can do this with coffee filters. Just have them color the filters (water colors work great) and then tie pipe cleaners in
the middle and add a little more on the ends to make antennas.
-
Pin the spider on the web. Once again this is a take of Pin the tale on the donkey so this one should need no explaining.
- Put rice in a large container and put plastic bugs (and other party favors in it) blindfold the kids and have them find the bugs.
- Pin the wings on the fly. Of course you could pin the wings on a ladybug or anything else, and even legs on a spider.
- Bean bag toss. Get felt bugs or the small stuffed bugs that are like bean bags would be better. Create something for them to toss the bags into.
Make one hole a beehive and so one. They have to get the right bug in the right hole.
