The following are excerpts from our local news

Suburban & Wayne Times: "All of the candidates, except for Fisher, said they supported building a new middle school at the site of the current one in downtown Wayne."

Main Line Life: "Wayne was the clear winner for the new middle school site....during the public presentation, only endorsed Republican Kathy Fisher hedged about a Wayne site."

The Radnor United Methodist Church of Garrett Hill

A Community Meeting was held on April 25. All six school board candidates attended. The meeting was filmed by the Citizens Committee and will be shown on Radnor Public Access TV, date to be announced. The candidates spoke and broke into small round table discussions. One present school board member attended, Art Lewis (as did candidates and present school board members Dorothy Orlichowski & Chase Gibson) . One commissioner attended: Dave Cannan.

A special thanks goes out to the Reverend William M. Hosking and the Radnor United Methodist Church community for organizing and hosting the Town Meeting. Their hospitality was greatly appreciated by the candidates and citizens.

"Round 'Bout Radnor interviewed Adrian Scott of The National Trust for Historic Preservation at the Radnor Middle School on May 2nd!

Two School Board Candidates were interviewed, Dorothy Orlichowski (a current school board member) and Judy Sherry.

Historic Neighborhood Schools in the Age of Sprawl: Why Johnny Can't Walk to School
Public policies, including excessive acreage requirements, funding formulas and planning code exemptions, are promoting the spread of mega-school sprawl on outlying, undeveloped land at the expense of small, walkable, community-centered schools in older neighborhoods. The National Trust calls on school administrators and public officials to establish policies that will preserve and upgrade historic neighborhood schools. Among its recommendations, the National Trust suggests eliminating arbitrary acreage standards, funding biases, and certain zoning exemptions that undermine the public's ability to maintain older and historic schools as centers of community life and learning.

BROADSIDES

" Most kids who have done it liked it too. That's why it is so hard to understand why a few members of the Radnor school board and its superintendent are fighting so hard to remove an invaluable community asset, the middle school, to a remote site. Keeping kids part of the community and keeping the community part of kids' lives outweighs the questionable convenience of building another box on open space outside of town."
