Review of Abnormal Behavior

In this work, Blanchard and her colleague present a brief overview to many mental disorders prevalent at the time. This book was criticized for being too brief in its approach, and for containing "misleading" comments about patients such as, “It is very common on observation that they will beg for a cigarette with the same fervor as they do for drugs,” (Blanchard 298, qtd. in Lind).   According to the review, this book also had a great amount of statistics concerning suicide, which seems to be an influence from G. Stanley Hall. This brought about another sharp critique from Lind because they were not offering solutions, simply examining the problem.
