A wise person once told me
“into each life some rain must fall.”
but why must it rain a lot on one,
instead of a little on us all.
Why does it take a tragic event
for the umbrella to be shared,
when there are a million chances every day,
for some hardship to be spared?
Why should it take some loss of life
for us to appreciate our own?
Why do we have to lose someone
before some humanity is shown?
Why do we place more value
on any one man’s life?
A blue collar man, a homeless person,
or a politician’s wife.
Is either more important,
or are we telling ourselves lies?
We all live under the same umbrella
because we are equal in God’s eyes.
