Eminem's
first UK festival headlining slot has passed
without incident after he warned fans to expect
the unexpected.
The controversial rap star headlined Friday's
show at the Leeds festival and will play at
Reading and Glasgow over the weekend.
"We're not going to tell you what is in the
show because then it won't be a surprise,"
he told the BBC's Top of The Pops Plus in an
interview to be screened on Sunday.
"We might do something different, you will
have to wait and see.
"We can promise you a lot of energy, 45
minutes of energy and a lot of swearing. It will
be a great show, I can guarantee that."
Eminem, Travis and the Manic Street Preachers
head the line-up at this year's Reading and
Leeds festivals which are expected to attract
more than 50,000 people at each site over three
days.
Some of the same performers are also due to play
the Gig on the Green in Glasgow this weekend.
The Grammy-winning rapper, who played a warm-up
gig in London on Thursday for just 2,000 people,
will be performing after his latest court
controversy in the US.

D12
Run Riot In New York - 25th
August 2001 |
|
|
Police
called a halt to the filming of the new D12
video when the Detroit rap crew ran amok through
the streets and subways of New York city.
In a pastiche of cult 70s film The Warriors,
Eminem and D12 enlisted the help of Ice T, Royce
Da 5'9" and Fat Joe to recreate the scenes
in which a gang escapes its rivals and the NYPD
who are trailing them throughout New York.
According to US website Sonicnet, Police ordered
the Bronx set to be closed claiming that the
group did not have the correct licence to film
in such circumstances, claiming that they were
not informed that Eminem was a member of the
band.
However, the video production company claim that
this is not the case: "They made a bulls**t
excuse that they didn't know that Eminem was in
D12 when they were clearly informed all along
that he was."
"It was Saturday night, we were in the
middle of the most remote section of New York in
the Bronx, everything was done legally by the
books, there was no crowd. He shut it down and
revoked our permit for really no reason other
than disliking rap music and some experiences he
had with other productions."

August 2001 |

After
hours of waiting for Puff Daddy to get his
'pop-hop' crew of wannabes off the stage, D-12
eventually recorded there performance for this
years 'Source Awards' at 2:18 a.m. for “Purple
Hills” — although the guys must have forgot
this was for TV, since they performed the
explicit lyrics of the song's album version,
“Purple Pills.” “Guys, could you please
not say 'fuck', 'shit', or 'pills'?,” a crew
member requested...
I can't remember when it's gonna air, just watch
UPN til you see a commercial.

The Trailer Park! - 23rd August

Eminem's
grandmother has announced how proud she is that
the rapper is to play in Scotland, revealing his
roots originate North of the border.
The grandmother of the appropriately christened
Marshall Bruce Mathers III has confirmed that
Eminem has deep links with Scotland, which are
set to be sealed by his performance at Glasgow
Green this weekend.
Betty Kresin, who lives in a Missouri trailer
park, explained that Eminem's
great-great-great-grandmother was Scottish.
She said: "I'm so pleased that my grandson
is playing in Scotland as that's where his
family is from. I took great pains to let him
know of his ancestry when he was younger. He
should be proud of his Scottish ancestry".
According to a Scottish newspaper, Eminem's
descendants emigrated to America in the 19th
century, living first in New York in 1870 and
then moving to Kentucky two years later.

Slim
Shady Show on Video! - 17th
August 2001 |
|
|
The
characters in Eminem's animated cartoon series
"The Slim Shady Show" are no longer
confined to the Web — they'll be spiking the
punch bowl with Viagra, slapping dudes in the
face with their genitals and dissing "Pristina
Gaguilera" on DVD and VHS this fall.
Home video versions of the online series will
hit stores in November, compiling 70 minutes of
previously webcasted episodes, new scenes,
behind-the-scenes footage and an interview with
Eminem.
The Flash animated cartoon, shown on
SlimShadyWorld.com, centers around Slim and his
crew of unruly friends. Slim is "the flyest,
most self-promoting homeboy in town" who
has a "nasty habit of getting everyone else
in trouble with his antics," according to a
character synopsis. The crew also includes
high-school outcast Marshall Mathers III, who
lives with his aunt in a trailer park.
"The Slim Shady Show" will hit stores
November 6 in edited and uncensored versions,
with the latter featuring three minutes of
footage deleted from the original episodes.

Money Money Money - 16th August
2001 |

Marshall
Bruce Mathers III, 28, and Kimberly Scott
Mathers, 26, both of Clinton Township, appeared
before a Macomb County judge Monday since the
pair hasn't reached agreement on alimony or
child support.
Probate Judge Antonio P. Viviano referred the
matter to mediation before attorney Felice
Iafrate, and scheduled the case for trial later
this year.
Both sides left without comment Monday. A court
order earlier this summer bars either side from
giving details of the case.
"Judge Viviano, wisely I think, imposed a
provision that none of the parties involved can
even discuss it," said Mrs. Mathers'
attorney, Robert Z. Feldstein of Troy.
Mr. Mathers, also known as Grammy award-winning
rapper Eminem and as member of the rap ensemble
D-12, protests a Macomb County Friend of the
Court recommendation that he pay child support
to the tune of $142,480 per year.
Court documents indicate Mrs. Mathers' attorneys
disagree with the sum, as
"inadequate."
Mr. Mathers' attorney, Harvey Hauer, requested
in court Monday that the child support issue go
before the mediator, even though attorneys
indicated they may be close to an agreement.
The Matherses legally separated after an
incident at Hot Rock Sports Bar and Music Cafe
in Warren, which spawned two criminal charges
against the rap star last June. They later
reconciled and scrapped the divorce case, but
Mrs. Mathers renewed it in March.
Eminem is now on probation for carrying a
concealed weapon in the Hot Rock incident, in
which he allegedly brought an unloaded 9 mm
handgun and confronted a man he saw kissing Mrs.
Mathers.
Mrs. Mathers faces a pending charge of cocaine
possession, a 4-year felony, in 41B District
Court in Mount Clemens for a July 8 incident.
She remains free on a $5,000 bond.
Under another agreement reached last month, the
couple shares legal and physical custody of
their daughter Hailie, 5, "so that Hailie
spends approximately 50 percent of the time with
each party."

Eminem
to be Featured on New Jay-z Album
- 10th August 2001 |
|
|
Jay-z's new album entitled
"The Blue Print" will feature Eminem in
the song "The Renegades"...
Eminem, who also produced the track, provides a
dementedly savory piano-chord backdrop while he
and Hov release some stress. "Do you listen
to music or just skip through it?" Jay asks
critics who call his tunes one-dimensional. He
then blasts the government, saying that he was
"influenced by the ghetto you ruined."
Slim Shady, who likens himself to a "modern
day Shakespeare," tells everyone (this is a
shocker) that he's "never been afraid to say
what's on his mind."

Fuck
Cyberfest and their Cow Palace -
10th August 2001 |
|
|
Eminem and his hip-hop
proteges D12 have been removed from the bill for
tomorrow's Cyberfest event at the Cow Palace.
According to promoters of the show, Daly City
police wanted the group taken out of the lineup
after hearing reports of recent violence involving
D12.
Earlier this week the group was asked to leave
Warped, a skate-punk summer tour, after an
altercation in Camden, N.J., with members of Natas,
a rival rap group from Detroit. Eminem was not
present at the fight.
Cyberfest, produced by East Bay promoters Cool
World, is a periodic multistage event celebrating
dance culture. Tomorrow's event at the Cow Palace
was originally scheduled for 3Com Park. Past
events have taken place in Fresno and San Jose;
other Cyberfests are scheduled Sept. 22 in Houston
and Nov. 24 in Miami.
Sason Parry of Cool World said he understood the
police concerns. "We don't support any type
of violent behavior or negativity. We have over a
hundred DJs and artists performing. We didn't want
to jeopardize the show, by any means."

Controversial rapper Eminem
was today sending a bundle of love to the North
East girl he helped bring back from a deep coma.
The American artist pledged to send CDs, videos
and a baseball cap to help Dione Armstrong on the
road to recovery.
The Chronicle exclusively revealed how the
12-year-old came back from death's door after
hearing Eminem's hits while lying unconscious in
hospital.
The schoolgirl had spent 11 days on a life support
machine in Newcastle General Hospital after being
hit by a car.
Now she is off the critical list and opened her
eyes after her mum played the rapper's songs.
Today a spokesman for Polydor, Eminem's record
label, said the artist was glad to be helping
Dione.
He said: "Eminem is so pleased his music has
had such an amazing effect on Dione. He is amazed
that it has made such a difference."
Dione's stepdad John Ellis, 35, of Chesterhill,
Cramlington, said: "We were touched to hear
Eminem is sending us these gifts. When it comes it
will be used to get more response from Dione as
she recovers.
"She is progressing a little bit at a time,
although she still hasn't said anything yet.
"We'd like to say thank you to Eminem and we
also want to thank all the staff in the intensive
care unit, as they really deserve it for what they
have done."
Mum, Karen, added: "Eminem is helping to save
her life. I think his music is doing her good
because it's bringing her around. The minute I put
it on she was moving her hands to it."
The US rapper, who comes to Britain later this
month, has courted controversy throughout his
career, allegedly downing drugs on stage and being
arrested on weapons charges.
His live shows, in which he swings a chainsaw and
wears an ice hockey mask, have attracted criticism
and he has been slammed by gay rights groups for
his lyrics.
Dione was taken to Newcastle General Hospital
after the accident two weeks ago on the A189 Spine
Road at Cramlington, Northumberland. She was left
with serious head injuries after being hit by a
Ford Escort.

Slim
and Manson Can Play in Glascow -
8th August 2001 |
|
|
EMINEM
and MARILYN MANSON have been granted licence to
perform at the GLASGOW GIG ON THE GREEN festival
later this month during a city council hearing
this morning (August 8), despite ongoing
protests.
Following a 20-minute hearing at city chambers,
the committee took just five minutes to come to
their decision to allow the show to go ahead.
The festival had previously been in some doubt
after the Licencing Court took the unusual step
of asking to see sample lyrics from both artists
before considering whether or not to grant a
licence for the two days - due for August Bank
Holiday weekend. And a group calling themselves
the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Group had
promised to picket the hearing and take steps to
prevent Eminem and Manson from appearing. Also,
a mother of one of those killed in the Columbine
High School tragedy called this morning for
people to boycott Manson.
During the hearing opposition to the pair's
appearance came from Councillor Gordon
MacDairmid. He described Eminemas "clever
but obnoxious" and recalled the spectre of
Columbine saying he couldn't have it on his
conscience if something similar happened
"to young people at the concert"
because of Marilyn Manson.
The mooted picket from the Catholic Charismatic
Renewal Group did not appear, though three
members, while refusing to comment about the
decision, did tell NME.COM they would hold a
peaceful prayer protest in Glasgow George Square
on August 25, the day Manson and Eminem will
perform.
Barry White, a co-promoter of the Gig On The
Green, expressed delight at the outcome of the
hearing.
"It is the first time in 25 years of
promoting gigs that I have been asked to supply
lyrics of an artist to the Licencing Court. I'm
absolutely delighted that confidence in the
common sense of the people of Scotland has been
upheld," he said.

Was All Instigated by this Idiot
Eminem - 7th August 2001 |
|
|
A
primary school head teacher has voiced concerns
after pupils aged ten and 11 were found slashing
their wrists in an attempt to mimic the
controversial singer Eminem.
Five pupils at a school in Oldham, Manchester -
which is not being identified to protect the
pupils - had flesh wounds on their forearms from
copying a scene in an Eminem video where a
disturbed fan is seen slitting his wrists.
The children told teachers they had dismantled
pencil sharpeners to use the blades to inflict
injuries on themselves in the playground.
"It was extremely worrying," the head
teacher said.
"Nobody has been seriously injured, but
some of the sharpeners are rusty and could cause
blood poisoning - if they caught a vein or
artery, the children would be in real trouble.
"It has all been instigated by this idiot
Eminem. I explained to the children there are
good and bad examples and they should take on
board the good, and reject the bad," he
said.
There is concern the practice could spread, but
the head at the school in Oldham is confident he
has nipped the problem in the bud.
"We have put a lot of resources in to
stamping this problem out and we continue to
monitor the situation," he said.
"We check the wrists of the pupils daily,
and if we found any further signs of this
activity, the pupils parents would be informed
immediately."
The head also called in the police to talk to
pupils about the issue.
Schools liaison officer for Greater Manchester
Police, Graham Jones, said: "When I asked
them if they thought the red stuff was real
blood, they said 'No, it's probably tomato
sauce'".
"But the trouble is, when they cut their
wrists, it's not tomato sauce that comes out
then, it is real blood.
We would also ask parents to keep their eyes
open, as it may happen outside school
Andy Sampson, Oldham Council
"I realise this guy is an idol, but there
is a lot of danger in that behaviour, they could
make a dangerous cut, or get blood poisoning
from a rusty blade," PC Jones said.
Nick Caws, principal educational psychologist
for Tameside's educational psychology service,
said it would be unusual for this craze to take
off because "self injuries behaviour was
not that common".
"A bit of guidance around behaviour in
class and getting involved with parents is
usually all that's needed, explaining the need
to ensure pupils should not copy negative
aspects of what they see," he said.
Assistant director of education and leisure at
Oldham Council, Andy Sampson, said the council
was very concerned to hear what was happening.
"Therefore we have raised the issue in a
meeting with head teachers to see how widespread
it might be.
"It is important for staff and pupils
remain vigilant to ensure that it does not
develop in our schools.
"We would also ask parents to keep their
eyes open, as it may happen outside
school," Mr Sampson said.

Dirty
Dozen Thrown Off Warped Tour -
7th August 2001 |
|
|
Eminem's
rap outfit D12 have been kicked off a US tour
after allegedly getting into a fight with rival
rappers.
D12, a group of Eminem's protégés, were
playing on the Warped Tour in New Jersey when
the incident took place.
Members are alleged to have attacked fellow
rappers Esham and TNT, part of the group Natas.
Esham is said to have suffered a broken nose,
ruptured eyeball and concussion.
The single's title was changed from Purple Pills
There has been a long-running feud between Esham
and Eminem - who was not part of the tour.
Esham has accused the artist of stealing his
material for D12's best-selling album Devils
Night.
The Warped Tour was a showcase for many upcoming
and established artists including Blink 182 and
the Rollins Band.
D12 spokesman Dennis Dennehy confirmed a fight
had broken out and that it was being
investigated by police.
Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman confirmed that
both D12 and Natas were dropped from the US tour
but declined to comment on the incident.
D12's Devils Night album is currently at number
four in the UK charts, but its explicit lyrics
have caused problems for the band.
Their debut single had to been heavily edited to
make it suitable for radio and television.
Purple Pills was changed to Purple Hills to make
it more palatable for younger audiences. |
