Biography of William B. Foster

This is the Page for Captain William B. Foster of the 23rd PA Volunteers. He was mustered into the 23rd PA on August 8th 1861 and quickly promoted to 1st Sgt. On May 3rd 1863, he was wounded at The Battle of 2nd Fredricksburg. William again was promoted to 1st. Lt on July 12th 1862 and agin to Captain of March 1st 1863. He was discharged on a Surgeons Certificate on November 22nd 1863 due to his wound. After the War, he moved to Milwaukee WI, where he lived the remainder of his life. He died on May 7th 1895 and was buried at Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee in Section 11, Lot 28. His Headstone is a Mistake when it reads Company E.
