Other Items From Grattan's Pharmacy Brief History Cowdrick's Pharmacy opened in December of 1949 in it's current location on 230 North Front St. in Philipsburg, PA. Sherman Cowdrick was the owner of the Walgreen Agency. The soda fountain was a major attraction for local children & adults alike. During it's boom, the 15-foot fountain employed 5 women. When Mr. Cowdrick died, a pharmacist at Cowdrick's, Patrick Grattan, purchased the pharmacy from Mr. Cowdrick's family. He changed the name to the current Grattan's Pharmacy. In 1996, Mr. Grattan passed away suddenly and his daughter, Sharyn, took over the pharmacy. Sharyn & her husband, Anthony Gallucci currently own and operate the pharmacy. Sadly, May 24, 2003 was the last day for the fountain. It had never taken a break since it's opening in December of '49. Plans are for the fountain equipment to be sold to make way for future remodeling that can better serve our 1500+ customers. |
