Nashid Ali, born and raised in Philadelphia, graduated from Simon Gratz High School and Wilberforce University. He earning a MA from Northwestern University and Advanced Leadership Training Certificate in Violence Prevention from Harvard University. His skills have been utilized in significant roles in the city of Philadelphia, such as a Social Worker for Children's Services, Inc., as well as a musician, artist, jeweler, and community activist.
Nashid is a family man, married with seven children who in his personal and professional life his mission has been, "to bring peace to our communities." He has played and continues to maintain key roles around the city as Organizer of Children Speak Out for Peace in the Empowerment Zone and Peace Day Philadelphia. His affiliations, besides being the present president for Keepers Of The Culture, Inc., also include; Men In Support of The Million Women March; Chair of the West Philadelphia Enpowerment Zone, Health and Human Development Committee, and Program Director of West Philadelphia's Peacemaker Project.
A founding member of DROP SQUAD 99, a performing arts trio that include Robb "Peaceman" Carter and Matah James Adams, they communicate with folks through the artistry of drumming, storytelling, poetry, and songs, around issues of culture, self esteem, building, grief and loss counseling and conflict resolution.
Drop Squad 99 exist to create a safe environment for our children: an environment where they can play, grow and develop together without fear of physical, mental, spiritual harm, injury or destruction.
