*United States regular army regiments played important but minor roles in the Civil War. The state militias and volunteer units overwhelmed the regular Army contingent by the thousands. Those who did choose to enter the ranks of the regulars often times came as former officers of the volunteer regiments looking to achieve a regular commission in the Army by enlisting in the ranks, if they couldn’t get a direct commission.

** 82 known members of the “Mull” family of North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee served in the Confederate States of America Army.   These family members are related though the Christophel Moll’s son, John Moll/Mull, who settled in North Carolina about 1759.  Additional information about these family members can be found by clicking here.
