Joseph Moll
5th PA Regiment Militia Infantry, Company "G".

Musician Joseph Moll served in the 5th PA Regiment Militia Infantry, Company "G". He enlisted in Allentown September 13th, 1862.

The news of Robert E. Lee's invasion of Maryland in September 1862 set off alarms throughout Pennsylvania. Governor Curtin declared a state of emergency and across the state, volunteers were organized to meet Lee's army. In Allentown, four companies of volunteers were organized from men over 50 and boys under 17. I suspect that Joseph Moll served as a "Drummer Boy" in this company, and he was very young.

The regiment was called out on September 13th, 1862, and on Monday, September 15th the unit was moved into Harrisburg. On September 17th, the regiment was moved into Maryland in support of the regular army to resist Lee's invasion of Maryland. The unit saw no action, and after Lee's defeat at Antitem, Maryland, the regiment was returned to Allentown and disbanded on September 24. 1862.

There is no Military Service Record or Pension File about Joseph Moll in the National Archives. At this time, no other information is known about his life.
