Wendesday was the Mt. Fuji climb expedition. Climbing Mt Fuji is a unique adventure that only 1% of the Japanese ever experience. The biggest thing I remember about this is that if you aren't in good physical shape, you're not going to accomplish it.

The walk up is marked as taking four and a half hours but we found that even though we were in pretty good shape it did take a lot longer than expected. Also, for saftey reasons we climbed at the pace of the slowest. It took all day to climb to the top, but that also included a number of rest stops along

the way. We were glad of our guide's to choose a different way down. We chose to climb down by what was called the "Gotenba route" which is essentially a steep slope going down the mountain.

Climbing down by comparision was easy. The relatively shallow slope down (which is still quite steep) allowed us to run down for a lot of the way and the scree acts as a shock absorber and protects the knees on the way down.

I also remember there were many small stores at Mt. Fuji where you could buy cokes and snacks, and of course, souviners.
