Visit to the Jamboree by Japanese Royalty
Monday was the next-to-the-last day of the Jamboree, and basically it was an open day for you to explore around the site. For those who didn't make it up Mt. Fuji before the storm, there was an excursion, but I recall I just roamed around to see the sights and sounds.

Many of the scouts were at one of the various trading posts buying souviners; others at one of the Internationsl Telephone offices calling home; and there was a friendship exchange at lunch where you could have lunch with scouts from around the world.

We had a special visitor to the Jamboree today, Neil Armstrong. Actually, we larned he had been at the Jamboree the past three days, and brought along his 14 year old son. At first, Armstrong casually walked from campsite to campsite meeting scouts from around the world. Although after news of his presence spread, the crowds to meet him became quite large, and also, unfortunatley, a bit unruly. Eventually he was escoted out of the Jamboree area by Jamboree adult scouters who barley were able to keep the crowds at arms' length.

There was also a party held for foreign scouts by Japanese Troop 29 from Toyama Prefecture. Scouts were offered various types of shushi, oden, tempura and tokorroten. In addition, they built a special room for a tea ceremony.

In the evening, we were invited to a Asuka camp fire where all the scout troups in our Sub-Camp were gathered to meet and share experiences with each other.
