August 10th, 1971

Headline for today: Scouts from different lands race to see who can be the first to saw through thick logs at the Jamboree site Monday [August 9th, 1971].
Tuesday was the last day of the Jamboree and again it was an "open day" with no formal activities scheduled.

However tuesday night was the last night of the Jamboree and we had a huge ceremony and party. A large group of students, visiting Japanese Cub Scouts and Japanese citizens from neighboring cities visted the campsite.

About 1800 all the scouts began to assemble in the Jamboree arena, and about an hour later the closing ceremonies began with the lighting of the final bonfire.

Antonio C. Delgado, Vice-Chairman of the World Jamboree Comittee delivered the closing address. He told us to remember the lessons of Asagiri - "Troubles and difficulties should not discourage you but they should instead bring out the best that is in you. No problem is so great that it cannot be solved by men working together and shring what they have as brothers".

"There is a special bond between us now. We have learned the true meaning of 'For Understanding'", Delgado said.

Delgado's address was followed by a redidication to the Scout Oath by all the scouts, then the lights were put out. The Jamboree flags were then retired and the scouts started to sing "Auld Lang Syne".
