Contra is an excellent game for the NES. It was a hit back in the '80s and it's still a favorite for many.
Graphics
Based on NES standards, the graphics of Contra are good. They are practically the same for most other games. I give it 8/10
Music
Based on NEs standards, the music of Contra is good also. A fine example of the stage 1 Contra music is playing on the top left of this page. I give it 8.5/10
Gameplay
Gameplay is good. You can shoot your gun in 8 different directions, jump, and lay on the ground. The game has 7(?) levels. If you are really good, and can play through the entire game without dying, it should take you a good hour or more. It is INCREDIBLY EASY to die, so you either need to be REALLY GOOD, or input the 30 lives code if you want to make it to the end. Millions of enemies pop out of nowhere so you need to be alert. It's a lot easier and more fun to play with 2 people. I give it 9/10
Replay
The replay value of this game isn't that bad. Playing with a friend makes it even higher. Playing through normally and seeing how far you can get, and then doing it again later and getting farther gives it good replay value. I give it 9/10
Story
The basic story is that an alien group called Red Falcon(?) has come to Earth, and you, a lone soldier must defeat it. I give it 7/10
Conclusion
This is just one of those classic NES games that everybody who's into NES wants. I've been looking for it for a while and haven't found it yet. My overall score: 89%. It's a fun game - with only the components that a good game really needs - story not included.
