...MAJOR SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK LIKELY LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE'S STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS PLACED THE
REGION UNDER A MODERATE RISK FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR LATE TODAY AND
EARLY TONIGHT.
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE TRIGGERED ACROSS THE REGION AHEAD OF AND ALONG A
STRONG COLD FRONT APPROACHING FROM THE NORTHWEST. WITH A MOIST AND
UNSTABLE AIRMASS IN PLACE ACROSS THE REGION AND IMPRESSIVE UPPER LEVEL
SUPPORT...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY. THESE STORMS HAVE THE
POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS. DEADLY
LIGHTNING...TORRENTIAL RAIN AND POSSIBLY SOME LARGE HAIL WILL ACCOMPANY
THESE STORMS.
FRONTAL PASSAGE IS EXPECTED AROUND 8 PM IN THE NEW YORK CITY METRO AREA
AND AROUND 10 PM ACROSS THE TWIN FORKS OF LONG ISLAND.
PEOPLE WITH ANY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES PLANNED THIS AFTERNOON OR
EVENING...INCLUDING BOATING...ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO PAY CLOSE
ATTENTION TO THE WEATHER. THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE MOVING AT UP TO 50
MPH AND WILL GIVE LITTLE TIME TO REACT OR GET TO SHORE.
