Halo Friendlies Interview

Printed in the January 2003 issue of Spotlight Magazine

Halo Friendlies

Back in November, I went to the Good Charlotte concert at Gettysburg College, in Gettysburg, PA, with opening bands Halo Friendlies and Homegrown. The first band to go on was Halo Friendlies. I was really hooked on the Halos from the first song. This all female rock/punk group is based out of California, and have been together for quite a few years now. Their newest CD, "Get Real," is a great listen, and I suggest that if you're a fan of music, you get it. The girls put a lot of work into it, and the finished album is killer. Stop on over to their website and pick up a copy.

A little after their set, I had the chance to talk to Ginger(bass; back-up vocals) for a few minutes. She was extremely nice, and fun to talk to. A lot of the fans there got the chance to talk with members of the band, which I think is really great to be able to actually talk to the artist, even if it's only a very short conversation. Since I liked the band so much, I decided to e-mail them to see if they'd be interested in doing a short interview. I was actually really surprised to hear back so quickly. Judita(lead vocals; guitar) was nice enough to answer my questions, so here is how the interview went:

Jen: How are you doing today?

Judita: Ok, except my allergies are bothering me.

Jen: Where did the name 'Halo Friendlies' come from?

Judita: From a Damian Jurado song called, “Halo Friendly”

Jen: How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn't heard your music before?

Judita: Go Go’s meets the Ramones

Jen: Are you satisfied with how much success your album 'Get Real', your newest album, has gotten so far?

Judita: We’re happy that we’ve gotten so much positive feedback and made so many new fans because this album. We’re a bit bummed that a lot of fans can’t find it at their local record stores. It could be a lot more successful if it was promoted and distributed better.

Jen: Looking back at the album, are you completely satisfied with the finished product?

Judita: There’s always something that you hear after the fact that you wish you would have done differently in the studio but all in all we love it and are satisfied with it.

Jen: Where does the band's inspiration for the music come from?

Judita: We have a lot of different musical influences, but our biggest inspiration is that we love playing and writing music together.

Jen: You just finished touring with Good Charlotte, Homegrown, and Auto Pilot Off not long ago. How was that for you?

Judita: It was awesome. All those guys are great and they have wonderful fans. Their fans became our fans.

Jen: Are there any good road stories you'd like to share?

Judita: We learned that Orlando, Florida is a pretty rowdy town on a Friday night. I’ll just leave it at that.

Jen: How important do you feel a live show is to a band?

Judita: Very, if you want to get your name out in the world that’s the best way to do it. Especially if your album isn’t being promoted very well in other avenues.

Jen: Do you have anything else lined up for the future as far as touring?

Judita: We’ve submitted for a bunch of tours for next year but nothing is confirmed so far.

Jen: Do you think that the internet plays a big role in a band's success these days?

Judita: Totally. MP3’s are a great way to get heard.

Jen: Who would you love to tour with?

Judita: No Doubt, Jimmy Eat World and Weezer.

A special thanks to Judita for taking the time to do this for me!
