Splash Silkies

I think my most favorite variety of Silkie is the Splash. Splashes are related to the Blues in that the Splashes carry two blue genes, whereas Blues carry just one. The blue gene dilutes the color black, so therefore a Blue or Splash chicken is actually a black bird that has been diluted by one or two blue genes.

Splash pullet Splashes should be a very pale blue, almost white, with patches of regular Blue here and there, giving them a sort of spotted look. Some Splashes have so many blue "splashes" that they look too dark, so I prefer to aim for breeding for a less spotted coloration.

And now, to introduce our most glorious bird, a pullet that now resides with my friend and partner Joanne in Florida... Gypsy, a beautiful Splash girl who just won BV and RB at the 2005 Florida State Fair and Youth Poultry Show! Congratulations Joanne and Britanny!
