New Flyer D40LF Low Floor Transit Buses

Many of these details are taken from a flyer handed out at several recent New Flyer displays.

The first two batches of 100 buses each are in service, and have been operating on all Callowhill routes except the 63; on virtually every Red Arrow route except for 107 and 116; and most routes out of Southern, including the 2, 17, 37, and G.

Frankford, Comly, Red Arrow, and Southern have their batch of 5500-series low floors on the road. Buses at Frankford are being used on all lines except the 3, while Comly has used the low floor buses on all routes except for school trippers.

The third batch of D40LFs are due to arrive at SEPTA early next year. The first 85 of these buses (5613-5697) are tentatively set to go to Midvale with Frontier getting the remaining 15 (5698-5712).

SEPTA's 40-Foot Low Floor Transit Buses

Manufactured By New Flyer of America, Incorporated

Three hundred (300) 40-foot transit buses have been ordered from New Flyer of America for service on selected City and Suburban fixed routes. These buses are replacing 40-foot buses built between 1984 and 1986. The purchase of these buses will allow SEPTA to better respond to ridership demand and changing route characteristics. Buses are delivered between now and December 2003. The first batch was completed last last year; the second batch arrived during Spring 2002; the final batch will arrive in early 2003.
